BANGLADESH-JAISHANKAR
External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar came on a day long visit to Bangladesh on Thursday. The visit came in the run up to the preparations for the forthcoming visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Bangladesh to participate in the birth centenary celebration of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib. 50 years of the liberation of Bangladesh and Establishment of diplomatic ties with India are also being observed.

CHAHBAHAR-EAM
India on Thursday commemorated Chabahar Day on the sidelines of the Maritime India Summit-2021. The event was held virtually. Ministers from Afghanistan, Armenia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia and Uzbekistan participated in the event.
Addressing the Ministerial-Level opening session, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar said, the shift in the fulcrum of global economic growth towards Asia is creating unprecedented opportunities for connectivity in the region. He underlined the need to address the huge infrastructure deficit in the region to fulfil the growing aspirations of the  people. The Minister said, recognising the importance of regional connectivity , India made a landmark decision to undertake an overseas port investment in Chabahar. During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Iran in 2016, a Trilateral Agreement to establish an International Transport and Transit Corridor was signed by India, Iran and Afghanistan. Dr Jaishankar said, the establishment and operations of India Ports Global Limited at Shahid Behesti Port in Chabahar is the practical realisation of this important initiative.
 Dr Jaishankar said, Chabahar port has not only emerged as a commercial transit hub for the region but also facilitated the delivery of humanitarian assistance, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.  


Dr Jaishankar said, the International North South Transport Corridor INSTC is an important trade corridor project.
He expressed hope that during the INSTC Coordination Council meeting, member states will agree to the expansion of the INSTC route to include the Chabahar Port and also agree on expanding the membership of this project.

MANDAVIYA-MARITIME
Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Mansukh Mandaviya has said that the Chabahar Port has emerged as the 'connecting point' for the region to deliver humanitarian assistance during the COVID pandemic. Delivering his keynote address on 'Chabahar Day' in the Maritime India Summit on Thursday, Mr. Madaviya said, Chabahar Port is facilitating trade between Central Asian countries and Afghanistan with the countries of South and Southeast Asia and the Far East. He said, India used the Port to ship wheat to Afghanistan even during the tough times of COVID-19. He added that India has already proposed the inclusion of Chabahar Port in the International North-South Transport Corridor, INSTC route. The Shipping & Ports Minister welcomed the interest shown by Uzbekistan and Afghanistan to join the INSTC.

CANADA-VACCINES
The First tranche of Made In India COVID 19 vaccines reached Canada on Wednesday. Ms. Anita Anand, Minister of Public Services & Procurement of Canada in a tweet said that 500,000 doses of the Astra Zeneca COVISHIELD vaccine has reached Canada from the Serum Institute of India. She added that  1.5 million more doses are to follow.

BARBADOS-LAUDS
Prime Minister of Barbados Mia Amor Mottley has lauded India for providing COVID 19 vaccines. In a tweet, she said Prime Minister Narendra Modi made it possible for more than 40 thousand people in Barbados and tens of thousands elsewhere, to receive their 1st dose of COVISHIELD. She described the Vaccine Maitri initiative of the government of India as a genuine demonstration of generosity.

IISC-MUTATION
Researchers in the Bengaluru based Indian Institute of Science have found that COVID19 virus is mutating faster than before. The findings were based on IISC researchers' proteo-genomic investigation of viral samples obtained from COVID 19 positive individuals in the city.

MYANMAR-UPDATE
Atleast 38 people were killed in crackdown against protestors in Myanmar on Wednesday.  UN Special envoy on Myanmar Christine Schraner Burgener said that since the February 1 military overthrow of the Civilian government, Wednesday saw the most violence. She said that in conversation with the Myanmar deputy military chief Soe Win she warned him that the military was likely to face strong measures from some countries for the coup. In response, Soe Win told Christine Schraner Burgener that they were used to sanctions and have survived according to  reports.
The US State department spokesperson said that the US is appalled by the increase in violence.

The European Union (EU) said that shooting unarmed civilians and medical workers was a breach of international law. Reports of protests from several towns across Myanmar including Naypyitaw and Mandalay  are coming on Thursday morning.

UN-MILLETS
The 193-member UN General Assembly has unanimously adopted the resolution sponsored by India, declaring 2023 as the International Year of Millets. The resolution titled ‘International Year of Millets-2023’  is aimed at raising awareness about the health benefits of the grain. The resolution was initiated by India with Bangladesh, Kenya, Nepal, Nigeria, Russia and Senegal and was co-sponsored by over 70 nations.
The resolution considers the urgent need to raise awareness of the climate-resilient and nutritional benefits of millets and to advocate for diversified, balanced and healthy diets through the increased sustainable production and consumption of millets. It also recognises the vast genetic diversity of millets and their adaptive capacities to a range of production environments. U.N. Member States lauded India for the initiative and its leadership in facilitating negotiations on the resolution.

PM-MILLETS
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed gratitude to all the nations who initiated and co-sponsored the resolution on International Year of Millets at the United Nations. In a tweet, Mr Modi said, India is honoured to be at the forefront of popularising Millets, whose consumption furthers nutrition, food security and welfare of farmers. He said, it also offers research and innovation opportunities for agriculture scientists and start-up communities. The Prime Minister said, the distinguished delegates were also served Millet Murukku. Mr Modi said urged everyone to try the snack.
India’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador T.S. Tirumurti said it is a big step to promote nutritional and ecological benefits of millets to the world as a key component of food basket and effect policy changes. He expressed gratitude to all co-sponsors. He also expressed delight that all Member States enjoyed the delicious millet "murukku" distributed by Indian Mission.
Millets can grow on poor soils and are resistant or tolerant to many crop diseases and pests. They can also survive adverse climatic conditions.
Nutritionist Dr Meenal Jain spoke about the benefits of including millets in daily diet.

SPORTS CAPSULE
And Now News from the Sports World:
Indian shuttlers PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth, Sai Praneeth and Ajay Jayaram advanced to the quarterfinals of singles competition at the Swiss Open Super 300 badminton tournament.
Reigning women's world champion Sindhu cruised into the last eight with a straight games win 21-13, 21-14 over USA's Iris Wang while Jayaram stunned Swiss third seed Rasmus Gemke 21-18, 17-21, 21-13 to reach the quarter-finals.
World championships bronze medallist Sai Praneeth beat Spain's Pablo Abian 21-12, 21-17 while Kidambi Srikanth defeated France's Thomas Rouxel 21-10, 14-21, 21-14 to enter the quarter-finals.
Indian mixed doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Ashwini Ponnappa also progressed to the quarterfinals. However, Saina Nehwal, Paruppalli Kashyap and Sourabh Verma have crashed out of the tournament.
In Cricket, India were twenty four for one in their first innings at stumps on day one of the fourth and final Test match against England at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

IMRAN KHAN-NO CONFIDENCE
Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan has announced that he will seek a confidence vote in the National Assembly on the 6th of March. The National Assembly is the lower house of the Parliament in Pakistan.
 In a televised address to the Nation, Pakistan's Prime Minister stated that money had been used to influence Senate elections for the past 30-40 years adding that it posed a challenge to the country.
The development comes in wake of the current Finance Minister of Pakistan getting defeated in the Senate elections on Wednesday.  Senator Shibli Faraz has tweeted that Prime Minister Imran Khan has announced Sadiq Sanjrani for Senate Chairmanship.
