WN-BHARAT BIOTECH-EFFICIENCY

Bharat Biotech has announced that Covid-19 vaccine Covaxin demonstrated interim clinical efficacy of 81 per cent in its phase three trial.

The trials involved 25 thousand 800 participants across 21 sites. The first interim analysis is based on 43 cases of which 36 cases of Covid-19 were observed in the placebo group versus 7 cases observed in the Covaxin group resulting in vaccine efficacy of 81 per cent. The trials were conducted by the company with the help of Indian Council of Medical Research.

Director General of Indian Council of Medical Research, Dr. Balram Bhargava said that the journey of completely indigenous COVID-19 vaccine in less than eight months’ time showcases the immense strength of Atmanirbhar Bharat. He said it is also a testament to India’s emergence as a global vaccine superpower.

Dr. Krishna Ella, Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Biotech said that Covaxin demonstrated high clinical efficacy against Covid-19 and significant immunogenicity against the rapidly emerging variants.

India will commemorate ‘Chabahar Day’ on Thursday, 4th of March. The commemoration will occur on the margins of the Maritime India Summit-2021 which is being held between the 2nd of March to the 4th of March 2021. The event will be held virtually. A report:

WN-MYANMAR-UPDATE

At least 9 people were killed in three cities and townships of Myanmar and more than 30 wounded in firing by the security forces against protestors on Wednesday. The death toll in the ongoing protests in Myanmar now stands at 31.

The security forces resorted to live fire in several cities as the military government stepped up use of force to control the ongoing protests in the country. Police also used stun grenades and tear gas against protestors in towns like Myingyan where one person was killed in firing. In the central town of Monywa 5 people were killed. In the second largest city of the country Mandalay 2 people were killed and one person was killed in police firing in Yangon.

There were reports in local media that six protestors were killed in the North Okkalapa township near Yangon in firing by security forces.

On Sunday at least 18 people had died in firing by the police. The foreign ministers of ASEAN on Tuesday called for restraint in Myanmar but failed to call unanimously for the release of the deposed civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi and restoration of democracy in the country.

Meanwhile, another senior diplomat of Myanmar posted in Los Angeles joined the civil disobedience movement by refusing to work for the military government, reports Irrawaddy.

WN-CHINA-BLINKEN

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that China is the only country to seriously challenge the stable and open international systems. Mr. Blinken said this in a speech on U.S. foreign policy, at the Department of State on Wednesday.

Referring to China's actions Mr. Blinken called for allies and partners to exert their combined weight and stand for their values when Human Rights in Xinjiang or democracy in Hong Kong is trampled upon by China with impunity.

Global Tech Giant Amazon's Prime Video streaming service on Tuesday issued an apology overcome scenes in its original political drama series "Tandav", which allegedly offended Hindu religious beliefs.

In a statement titled "Amazon Prime Video Apologizes", the company on Tuesday said it deeply regrets viewers considered certain scenes to be objectionable.

The auction of telecom spectrum in India ended on Tuesday. Ministry of Communications said, the auction has concluded and the provisional results are subject to scrutiny and approval by the government. The e-auction was based on Simultaneous Multiple Round Ascending Auction (SMRA) methodology. In today's HOTSPOT segment we are focusing on the spectrum auction which is expected to improve the services across the country. WN- WORLD WILDLIFE DAY

The 3rd of March is observed as World Wildlife Day.  The day is an occasion to celebrate and raise awareness of the world's wild animals and plants.  On the occasion, Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu urged everyone to put in dedicated efforts to save and preserve wildlife and create greater awareness on the need to maintain a healthy ecological balance on our planet. Mr. Naidu said that we need to make environment-friendly choices and ensure that natural habitats are not disturbed so as to hand over a healthier planet to future generations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has saluted all those working towards wildlife protection on World Wildlife Day. He said, be it lions, tigers and leopards, India is seeing a steady rise in the population of various animals. Mr Modi added that people should do everything possible to ensure protection of the country's forests and safe habitats for animals.

Benchmark domestic stocks today climbed more than two percent in sync with gains in the global equity markets. The BSE Sensex regained 51,000 mark while the NSE Nifty reclaimed 15,000 level. The rupee also strengthened 65 paise against the US currency. A report from the business world-

WN-SPECTROMETER

Indian Scientists have designed and developed a low-cost optical spectrograph. The spectrograph can locate sources of faint light from distant quasars and galaxies. It is one of the largest astronomical spectrographs in the country and has been successfully commissioned on the 3.6-Metre Devasthal Optical Telescope near Nainital Uttarakhand. Dr Amitosh Omar, scientist at the research institute ARIES, who led the project team spoke to All India Radio on this development.
