Prime Minister Narendra Modi today flagged off through video conferencing eight trains connecting different regions of the country with Kevadiya in Gujarat. These trains will facilitate seamless connectivity to the Statue of Unity. 
Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said, it is a historic day for the country as the beauty of Ek Bharat Shreshta Bharat is being highlighted. He said, in the history of Indian Railways, for the first time eight trains from across the nation have been connected with a single destination.

"ये कनेक्टिविटी, सुविधा के साथ-साथ रोज़गार और स्वरोज़गार के नए अवसर भी लेकर आएगी। ये रेल लाइन मां नर्मदा के तट पर बसे करनाली, पोइचा और गरुडेश्‍वर जैसे आस्था से जुड़े महत्वपूर्ण स्‍थानों को भी कनेक्ट करेगी"
The Prime Minister said, the NDA government has made sure that Indian Railways not only uses new Aatma Nirbhar techonologies but also ensure that they are environment friendly.

The Prime Minister said, today is the amalgamation of Indian Railways Mission and Sardar Vallabhai Patel's Vision. He said, there is no place like Kevadia and it is identified by the Statue of Unity and Sardar Sarovar Dam. Mr Modi said, it is becoming the new tourist destination of the country and it is estimated that in the coming years, one lakh people will visit Kevadiya daily.

"केवड़िया विश्व के सबसे बड़े टूरिस्ट डेस्टिनेशन के रूप में आज उभर रहा है। स्टैच्यू ऑफ यूनिटी देखने के लिए अब स्टैच्यू ऑफ लिबर्टी से भी ज्यादा टूरिस्ट पहुंचने लगे हैं। अपने लोकार्पण के बाद से करीब-करीब 50 लाख लोग स्टैच्यू ऑफ यूनिटी को देखने आ चुके हैं। कोरोना में महीनों तक सब कुछ बंद रहने के बाद अब एक बार फिर केवड़िया में आने वाले टूरिस्टों की संख्या तेजी से बढ़ रही है। एक सर्वे में अनुमान लगाया गया है कि जैसे-जैसे कनेक्टिविटी बढ़ रही है, भविष्य में हर रोज एक लाख तक लोग केवड़िया आने लगेंगे।"
Paying tributes to Bharat Ratna M G Ramachandran, Mr Modi said, one of the trains leaving for Kevadia is coming from Puratchi Talaivar Dr. MG Ramachandran Central Railway Station. He said, it is a happy coincidence that today is the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna awaredee MGR.

"MGR ने फिल्म स्क्रीन से लेकर पॉलिटिकल स्क्रीन तक, लोगों के दिलों पर राज किया था। उनका जीवन, उनकी पूरी राजनीतिक यात्रा गरीबों के लिए समर्पित थी। गरीबों को सम्मानजनक जीवन मिले इसके लिए उन्होंने निरंतर काम किया था। भारत रत्न MGR के इन आदर्शों को पूरा करने के लिए आज हम सब प्रयास कर रहे हैं।"
The trains flagged off by the Prime Minister today will connect Kevadiya with Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, Dadar in Maharashtra, Ahmedabad in Gujarat, Nizamuddin in Delhi, Rewa in Madhya Pradesh and Chennai in Tamil Nadu. A MEMU train to and fro Pratapnagar from Kevadiya was also inaugurated.
The Ahmedabad-Kevadiya Jan Shatabdi Express has been provided with the new-age Vista-dome tourist coach which will offer a panoramic view of the skyline.
The Prime Minister also inaugurated Dabhoi-Chandod broad gauge railway line, Chandod Kevadiya new broad gauge railway line, newly electrified Pratapnagar- Kevadiya section and the new station buildings of Dabhoi, Chandod and Kevadiya.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will perform Bhoomi Poojan of Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Phase-2 and Surat Metro Rail Project at 10:30 AM tomorrow through video conferencing. The Metro Projects will provide an environment friendly Mass Rapid Transit System to these cities.
Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Phase-2 is 28.25 Kilometre long with two corridors. The total completion cost of this project is five thousand 384 crore rupees. Surat Metro Rail Project is 40.35 kilometres long and comprises two corridors. The total completion cost of the project is over 12 thousand crore rupees.

World's largest vaccination drive to prevent COVID-19 infection was successfully launched in India yesterday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi rolled out the drive through video conferencing.
The Prime Minister said India's COVID 19 vaccination campaign is based on very humane principles and those exposed to maximum risk get the priority. 

"ऐसी ही उपलब्धियों के लिए राष्ट्र कवि  रामधारी सिंह दिनकर ने कहा था- मानव जब ज़ोर लगाता है, पत्थर पानी बन जाता है, भारत का टीकाकरण अभियान बहुत ही मानवीय और महत्वपूर्ण सिद्धांतों पर आधारित है। जिसे सबसे ज्यादा जरूरी है, उसे सबसे पहले कोरोना का टीका लगेगा। जिसे कोरोना संक्रमण का रिस्क सबसे ज्यादा है, उसे पहले टीका लगेगा। जो हमारे डॉक्टर्स हैं, नर्सेंस हैं, अस्पताल में सफाईकर्मी हैं, मेडिकल-पैरामेडिकल स्टाफ हैं, वो कोरोना की वैक्सीन के सबसे पहले हकदार हैं। चाहे वो सरकारी अस्पताल में हों या फिर प्राइवेट में, सभी को ये वैक्सीन प्राथमिकता पर लगेगी।"
A total of two lakh 7 thousand 229 people across the country were vaccinated on the first day.
The Health Ministry has said that a total of 553 sessions of Covid- 19 vaccination were conducted today in 6 States on the second day of the launch of the vaccination drive. These States are Andhara Pradesh in which 308 sessions were conducted today, 165 sessions in Tamil Nadu, 64 in Karnataka, 14 in Arunachal Pradesh and one session in Kerala and Manipur.
Addressing the media in New Delhi, Additional Health Secretary, Dr Manohar Agnani said, with this taking both the two days, a total of 2 lakh 24 thousand and 301 beneficiaries have been vaccinated so far:

 Mr Agnani also informed that in both these days, 16th and 17th January, a total of 447 Adverse Event Following Immunization- AEFIs have been reported out of which only three required hospitalization.

Serum Institute of India-produced Covidshield was supplied to all States and Union Territories, while Bharat Biotech's Covaxin was sent to 12 States. The Government said, the vaccination drive is probably the beginning of the end of coronavirus pandemic in the country.

In Uttar Pradesh, vaccination of the left out health workers for first dose of Covid vaccine will be conducted on 22nd January. Yesterday the vaccination for Covid-19 was successfully conducted at 317 Centres across the state.

 "Additional Chief Secretary -Information ,Navneet Sehgal told media at Lucknow today that vaccination is being administered in state according to the guidelines and plan issued by Union government. He said that nobody should have any doubt about vaccination process.  The health workers are being vaccinated first of all and there will be no change in the schedule. According to health department twenty two thousand 643  doctors and health workers  were vaccinated for first dose of covid-19 yesterday .The second dose of vaccine will be administered on 15th of February. Meanwhile 404 new cases of Corona  were detected during the last 24 hours in state and during the same period 666 people got  recovered from Corona infection. As of now more than 5 lakh 79 thousand patients have been cured and discharged . The recovery rate of Corona has  increased to 97.07 percent in state. MS Yadav, AIR News, Lucknow"

 The country's Covid-19 recovery rate has reached 96.58 per cent, after recovery of over 17 thousand one hundred people, in the last 24 hours. With this, One crore 1 lakh 96 thousand 8 hundred 85 people have recovered from Covid-19.
Meanwhile 15 thousand 144 fresh infections in the same period have taken country's caseload to over 1 crore 5 lakh 57 thousand 9 hundred. The Health Ministry said, 181 fatalities have pushed the death toll to 1 lakh 52 thousand 2 hundred and 74. India's active COVID-19 cases stand at 2 lakh 8 thousand 8 hundred and 26.

Schools in Delhi will reopen from tomorrow for students of Class 10th and 12th. All schools in the national capital have been physically shut since March last year to avoid the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. This will be the first time after 10 months that students will return to their campuses.
Earlier in a tweet, Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia said that permission has been given in view of the board examinations of Central Board of Secondary Education-CBSE and practical works. He said, students can be called to attend the schools with the consent of parents and they will not be forced to come to schools. COVID-related precautions, including sanitization of classrooms, wearing of face masks and social distancing will be mandatorily followed.
Only schools outside containment zones will be allowed to reopen and students, teachers, and staff living in these zones will not be allowed to attend.

Home Minister Amit shah today reiterated Government's commitment to national security, self reliance and social welfare. Addressing the valedictory session of JanSevak Samavesh in Belagavi in Karnataka today, Mr Shah said that Pakistan is replied to in the language that it understands. The Home Minister said doubling farmers income is the top priority of the Narendra Modi government and that the three central farm laws would ensure manifold hike in their earnings.

Mr Shah said the today the country is striving to achieve self reliance through Atma Nirbhar Bharat programme. In the area of Social welfare, he said, the Government is trying to improve the living standard of the poor by providing them a house, gas cylinder, electricity, toilet and tap water. Mr Shah said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has provided strong leadership and direction in the fight against the pandemic. India has managed to keep the fatality rate at the lowest and has improved infrastructure in the medical field during the pandemic to improve testing and treatment. The Home minister said that the development of covid vaccine within the country has made it possible today to take up the world's biggest vaccination drive. He called upon citizens to purchase Indian products that will help our economy.

"मैं देश की जनता को विश्‍वास दिलाने आया हूं। हमारे ही देश में बने हुए दोनों टीके पूर्णत: सुरक्षित हैं मोदी जी ने स्‍वयं की निगरानी से ये पूरे टीकाकरण के कार्यक्रम का आयोजन किया है। कांग्रेस की बातों में मत आना जिसका नंबर आए डिसिपिलिन तरीके से टीका लगाकर अपने आप को कोरोना से मुक्‍त करने का काम करिएगा।"

Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar today said, the farmers can tell the government what they want other than the withdrawal of the farm laws. Talking to a news agency, the Minister urged the protesting farmers to hold a clause-by-clause discussion on the agricultural reform in the next round of meeting on Tuesday.

This comes after the government and protesting farmers on Friday held ninth round of talks on the farm laws but could not reach a decisive stage and later agreed to meet on January 19.
The Agriculture Minister said, they had sent a proposal to farmer unions in which the government agreed to address farmers' apprehensions regarding mandis, traders' registration and others. He said, the government also agreed to discuss laws on stubble burning and electricity but protesting farmers only want repeal of the laws.

The Government has said that more than 79 lakh paddy farmers have been benefited from current Kharif Marketing Season Procurement Operations with a Minimum Support Price (MSP) value of over one lakh six thousand crore rupees. The Agriculture Ministry said, the government continues to procure Kharif crops at its Minimum Support Price from farmers as per its existing MSP schemes. Around 564 lakh tonnes of paddy have been procured from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, Chandigarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam, Karnataka and West Bengal. The Government has also procured over two lakh 96 thousand tonnes of Moong, Urad, Groundnut Pods and Soyabean benefitting more than one lakh 59 thousand farmers.

 In Himachal Pradesh the first of the three-phase Panchayati Raj Institution elections were held today. Our correspondent reports that polling was held for 1,227 panchayats from 8 am to 4 pm. The remaining two phases are slated to be held on January 19 and January 21. The State has 3,615 gram panchayats, of which polling will be held for 3,583 panchayats except 32 in keylong in Lahaul Spiti district.

The full Election Commission of India team under Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora will reach Guwahati tomorrow on a 3 day visit to review poll preparedness. Recently, another ECI team had visited Dibrugarh and Guwahati and reviewed poll preparedness. The Chief Electoral Officer of Assam said that Mr. Arora and his team will hold meetings with officials and representatives of various political parties to fix assembly polls dates. Before wrapping up their visit, ECI will meet Chief Secretary and State DGP. Assembly polls in Assam are to be held this year.

National Road Safety Month will be inaugurated tomorrow. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari will launch the event in New Delhi. Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Gen (Retd) V K Singh and CEO, NITI Aayog Amitabh Kant will also participate in the event.
The month is planned to disseminate awareness regarding road safety and reduce road accidents in India. The activities planned for the purpose include launch of a film on Road safety, flagging off a National Championship Safe Speed Challenge from Attari border to Kanyakumari and giving away of awards for Road Safety. State Governments, PSUs, and Insurance companies will also participate in awareness-creating activities with seminars, walkathons, poster-making competitions etc.

The Road Transport and Highways Ministry has created a record by constructing 534 kilometres of National Highways in the last week. The Ministry said, it has constructed eight thousand 169 kilometres of National Highways in the current financial year, with a speed of about 28.16 km per day. During the same period in the last fiscal, seven thousand 573 km roads were constructed, with a speed of 26.11 km per day. The Ministry hoped that it should be able to cross construction target of 11 thousand km by 31st March this year. The Ministry has taken several initiatives to increase the pace of construction.

Legendary Indian classical musician and Padma Vibhushan awardee Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan died this  afternoon at his residence in Mumbai. He was 89.
Born on March 3, 1931 in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh, Ghulam Mustafa Khan was the eldest among four brothers and three sisters. Both of his parents belonged to the renowned musical background. He received basic classical music training from his father and later studied music under his cousin, Ustad Nissar Hussain Khan. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1991, followed by Padma Bhusan in 2006 and Padma Vibhushan in 2018. In 2003 he was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi award, the highest Indian recognition given to practicing artistes.

President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have condoled the passing away of Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan. The President in his condolence message said, Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan was a legend of Indian classical music. Mr Kovind said, he is honoured to have conferred Padma Vibhushan on him in 2018. The President said in his passing, music world has lost not only a doyen but also a mentor for young generation.
The Prime Minister said, in tweet, that the passing away of Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan Sahab leaves our cultural world poorer. Mr Modi said, he was a doyen of music, a stalwart of creativity whose works endeared him to people across generations. Mr Modi said, he has fond memories of interacting with him. The Prime Minister has also expressed condolences to his family and admirers.
The music freternity expressed deep condolences over Khan's sudden demise. Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar said that she is deeply saddened by the news of Khan's death. She wrote on twitter that Khan saheb was not only a very good singer but also a very good human being. Noted musician AR Rahman remembered Khan as the sweetest teacher. Ustad Amjad Ali Khan said, Khan's death has left him heartbroken. He tweeted that Khan was one of the most respected and versatile Vocalists of the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief on the demise of K G Shankar, MLA in Puducherry Assembly. In a tweet, Mr Modi said, K G Shankar made noteworthy efforts for the development of Puducherry and also worked to strengthen the BJP there. The Prime Minister expressed condolences to his family and supporters in this hour of grief.
K.G Shankar, (70) the nominated MLA of the BJP died due to cardiac arrest today. He was also the treasurer of BJP Puducherry unit.

The Sports Ministry has decided to name all upcoming and upgraded sporting facilities of the Sports Authority of India, after renowned athletes, who have contributed to sports in India. In the first leg, the newly built air-conditioned wrestling hall and the learners swimming pool in the National Centre of Excellence, NCOE in Lucknow, the 100-bedded hostel in NCOE Bhopal, the multipurpose hall and Girls’ hostel in NCOE Sonepat will be named after local Sportstars.
Speaking about the decision, Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju said, to build a sports culture in the country, it is important that our sportspersons get the honour they deserve. He said, the government is already providing all support to present and even past athletes to ensure that they have a life of comfort and dignity.

In Cricket, Australia were 21 for no loss in their second innings at stumps on day three of the fourth and final test against India at the Gabba in Brisbane today.
Australian openers Marcus Harris and David Warner survived six overs as the hosts ended the day with a lead of 54 runs with all 10 second innings wickets intact.
Earlier, India were bowled out for 336 in the first innings, only 33 runs behind Australia's first innings total of 369. Debutant Washington Sundar and Shardul Thakur scored half centuries. Shardul was the top scorer with 67 runs while Sundar scored valuable 62 runs. The duo added 123 runs to bring India back in the game.

Leh will have a clear sky. Mminimum temperature will settle at around minus 12 degree Celsius while the maximum will be around one degree.
