Southeastern states of India are bracing up to face the impact of powerful Cyclone Nivar. Evacuation efforts in the areas are in full swing. Indian Meteorological Department has said that Cyclone Nivar is likely to cross Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts  during mid-night of 25th and early hours of 26th November as a very severe cyclonic storm.

Director General of Indian Meteorological Department , Dr. M. Mohapatra said, Cyclone Nivar has the potential to cause extensive damage. He added that the intensity of rainfall will increase as the Cyclone gets nearer to landfall.

Deputy Commandant in National Disaster Response Force,  Rakesh Ranjan told AIR News that evacuation efforts are in full swing in close coordination with all concerned agencies. 25 NDRF teams have been deployed, out of which 15 are in Tamil Nadu, 4 in Puducherry and 6 in Andhra Pradesh. 



Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi has said that the soft power of India can strengthen the country’s image worldwide just like the Yoga has done. He was speaking at the celebration of Centennial Foundation Day of University of Lucknow via video conferencing this evening. The University is celebrating its 100 year of establishment.

Addressing the gathering of students, teachers and former students, the Prime Minister asserted that Universities are not just a center of higher education but they are a power house of making characters and providing inspiration.

He hailed the role of students and teachers during Corona period. The Prime Minister suggested that Universities should do research, branding and value addition to the products famous in those districts which are under educational ambit of university. This will help the government in framing the policies and it will help the One district One product Scheme.



President-elect Joe Biden has said that the United States will be “ready to lead” again on the global stage and his team is ready to stand up for  nation's values. Mr. Biden pledged to work together with the nation’s allies.

Introducing his foreign policy and national security team, Biden said his team had been able to begin coordinating with the Trump administration on national security, the coronavirus pandemic and vaccine distribution plans. Biden team got the green light from General Services Administration on Monday for formal transition efforts.

The White House on Tuesday gave the go-ahead for Biden to start receiving the president’s daily intelligence briefing.

During his presentation with his national security team, Biden urged the Senate to give his nominees a prompt hearing. He  expressed hope that he could work with Republicans in good faith.



The United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres expressed deep concern over the unfolding situation in the Tigray region of Ethiopia and its surrounding area.  Amid reports of a potential military offensive into the regional capital of Mekelle, he urged the leaders of Ethiopia to protect civilians, uphold human rights and ensure humanitarian access for assistance. He also called for the free and safe movement of people regardless of their ethnic identity, across both national and international borders. Antonio Gueterres urged all parties to seize this opportunity to de-escalate tensions.

United Nations has been supporting the initiative of  the African Union to facilitate peaceful solutions.



The government of Singapore has deported 15 Bangladeshis for their radical posts on the social media. These are related to the the publication of prophet Muhammad's cartoon in a French magazine and subsequent beheadings and response of the French President Emmanuel Macron.

Singapore Ministry of Home Affairs said that an investigation was launched against 37 individuals including 15 Bangladeshis for their suspected radical inclinations. 



Now, the Coronavirus s from around the world. According to WHO data, Global coronavirus infections crossed 59.20 million.

French President Emmanuel Macron said on Tuesday that the country will start easing its COVID-19 lockdown this weekend so that people will be able to spend the Christmas holiday with their families.

Bulgaria has imposed lockdown until December 21 to contain a surge in new coronavirus infections.

In India,  the COVID 19 recovery rate has improved to 93.72 per cent. Government of India issued the COVID 19 Guidelines for Surveillance, Containment and Caution, which will be effective during the month December. The main focus of the Guidelines is to consolidate the substantial gains that have been achieved against the spread of COVID-19 . It is visible in the steady decline in the number of active cases in the country.



South Korea's Personal Information Protection Commission on Wednesday fined Facebook Inc 6.06 million dollar for sharing users’ personal information without consent. The agency has also sought a criminal investigation into the matter.

The commission said in a statement that it fined Facebook after a probe found that the personal information of least 3.3 million of the 18 million Facebook users in Korea were provided to operators other than Facebook without their knowledge, from May 2012 to June 2018. 



About 100 pilot whales and bottlenose dolphins have died in a mass stranding on the Chatham Islands, about 800 km off New Zealand’s east coast. New Zealand’s Department of Conservation (DOC) said that 97 pilot whales and three dolphins died in the stranding.

Most of them were stranded during the weekend but rescue efforts have been hampered by the remote location of the island.

In late September, several hundred whales died in shallow waters off the Australian coast.



Moving on to sports, Legendary Football Player Deigo Maradona passed away at 60 due to cardic arrest.

New Zealand's Greg Barclay has been elected as the new independent chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). The head of the New Zealand Cricket team, Barclay beat Imran Khwaja in the second round of voting. Imran was interim chairman after Shashank Manohar stepped down from the post in July this year.

The Australian Open is likely to be delayed by a week or two.  Victorian Sports and Tourism Minister Martin Pakula told media in Melbourne that  the delay is due to negotiations over health measures still continue between organisers, the tennis tours and the Victoria government.
