Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the government has created a robust health infrastructure in a short span of time during the Covid-19 situation. He said, extensive network of testing labs have been created with the coordinated efforts of government and private sector which helps in effectively dealing with corona virus disease. He was speaking today at a webinar on working towards a vibrant health sector.

 

Appreciating the India's efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic, Mr. Modi said, the world has noted the strength which country's health sector has shown during the corona virus pandemic. He said, reputation and confidence in India's health care system has reached to a new level in the world.

 

Prime Minister said, unprecedented capital outlay has been allocated in the Union Budget for the Health sector and this shows the commitment of the government to provide better health care to every countryman. He said, strengthening of health infrastructure is necessary to effectively deal with Covid-19 like health disaster in the future.

 

"कोरोना ने हमें ये सबक दिया है कि हमें सिर्फ आज ही महामारी से नहीं लड़ना है। बल्कि भविष्‍य में आने वाली ऐसी किसी भी स्थिति के लिए भी देश को तैयार करना है। इसलिए हेल्‍थ सेक्‍टर से जुड़े हर क्षेत्रों को मजबूत करना भी उतना ही आवश्‍यक है। मेडिकल इक्विपमेंट से लेकर मेडिसिन्‍स तक, वेंटीलेटर से लेकर वैक्‍सीन्‍स तक,... लेकर के सर्विलेंस इनफ्रास्‍ट्रक्‍चर तक, डॉक्‍टर से लेकर करके... तक हमें सभी पर ध्‍यान देना है।"

 

He said, the government sees health issues in a holistic way and integrated approach has been taken through increased investment in the health sector to provide health care facilities in the far flung areas of the country. He added that 70 thousand crore rupees will be spent on the health care sector which will improve health facilities and create more employment. Talking about the PM-Atmanirbhar Swasthya Bharat Yojana, Mr. Modi said, it will create robust health ecosystem in the country by focussing on research, testing and treatment.

 

The Prime Minister said, India is working together on four fronts to keep people healthy. 


Mr. Modi asserted that India has set a target to eliminate TB from the country by the year 2025.

 

"टीबी भी एक प्रकार से इन्‍फेक्टिड पर्सन के ड्रॉपलेट से ही फैलती है। टीबी की रोकथाम में भी मास्‍क पहनना, अर्ली डाइलेसिस और ट्रीटमेंट ये सारी बातें अहम हैं। ऐसे में कोरोना काल में जो हमें अनुभव मिला है, जो एक प्रकार से हिन्‍दुस्‍तान के कॉमन मेन तक पहुंच चुका है। अब उसी हमारी प्रेक्टिसिस को, हम टीबी के क्षेत्र में भी उसी मोड में काम करेंगे। तो टीबी से जो हमें लड़ाई लड़नी है, बहुत आसानी से हम जीत सकते हैं"

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the requirements and the aspiration of 21st century India have changed and now the IITs have to be taken into next level as Institute of Indigenous Technology.

 

Addressing the 66th annual convocation of IIT Kharagpur through video conferencing today, the Prime Minister said, students, who have got degrees today, will not only have to start a new life but also act as the start up to change the lives of thousands of people of this country.


The medals and awards given to the pass outs are the charter of demands of the people of this country which they have to fulfill.

 

He said that today is a significant day for building New India as the students who passed out from the prestigious institute are the representatives of the aspiration of 130 crores Indians.

 

Mr Modi said that engineers have the ability to take things from pattern to patent. He said that self awareness, self confidence and selflessness will be the key to success in life. There is no shortcut in the way of science, technology and innovation. Even if someone does not succeed, they will learn something new as failure is the pillar of success.


Keeping in view the safety measures during the post pandemic situation, this year the Convocation is being organized in virtual mode. Union Minister of Education Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and Minister of State Sanjay Dhotre also addressed the convocation.

 

75 students including nine Institute Gold medal winners and sixty six Institute Silver medal winners were awarded in person while more than two thousand and eight hundred students were awarded degrees in online mode.

 

The Institute also conferred DSc, IIT Kharagpur Life Fellow Award and distinguished Alumnus Award to 27 achievers for their contribution to academics and research, social service and public welfare. Dr. Randeep Guleria, Director, All India Institute Of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, Dr. E. Sreedharan, former Managing Director of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Swami Atmapriyananda Maharaj Former Vice-Chancellor,  Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute were among the dignitaries felicitated today.

President Ramnath Kovind has reached Gujarat on a two day visit to the state. He was received by the Governor of Gujarat Acharya Devvrat, Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel among others at the Ahmedabad Airport on his arrival. During his two day visit, the President  will grace the third convocation ceremony of the Central University of Gujarat at Gandhinagar later today.The Central University of Gujarat was established by the Parliament through the Central Universities Act -2009. Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal will also attend the convocation ceremony.

 

President Kovind will also inaugurate the world's largest newly built Sardar Patel Cricket Stadium at Motera in Ahmedabad tomorrow. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will also remain present on this occasion.

 

President Kovind is expected to watch the third cricket test match between India and England with the Union Home Minister Amit Shah soon after the inauguration ceremony.

 

AIR Ahmedabad correspondent reports that the world's largest Cricket Stadium at Motera in Ahmedabad is all set to make history by hosting the first day-night pink ball test match between India and England from tomorrow. 

 

"Despite the Covid19 pandemic and only 50 percent spectators to be allowed inside the stadium, the people of Ahmedabad are very enthusiastic to watch the cricketing action at the world's largest Cricket stadium. The newly constructed Sardar Valllabhbhai Patel Stadium popularly known as the world's largest Motera Cricket Stadium has a capacity to accommodate 1 lakh 10 thousand spectators. The Motera stadium- that spreads across over 64 acres of land has three entrances. It has 76 air-conditioned corporate boxes with a seating capacity of 25 each. An Olympic-size swimming pool and four dressing rooms, a parking area that can accommodate around 3000 cars and 10000 two-wheelers. The stadium also has a clubhouse with 55 rooms, gymnasium, indoor practice pitches and food courts. Instead of flood lights, LED lights have been installed on the roof of Motera stadium. In Gujarat, counting of votes for six municipal corporations including Ahmedabad is underway. According to the latest figures, the ruling BJP has won 115 seats while Congress got 17 seats of the total 575 seats of six municipal corporations. Bahujan Samaj Party has also opened an account with 3 seats while Aam Aadmi Party has got 4 seats.

 

Our correspondent reports BJP won 24 seats in Ahmedabad, 17 in Vadodara, 16 each in Rajkot and Jamnagar, 11 in Bhavnagar while 4 in Surat Municipal Corporation. On the other hand, opposition Congress has got 7 seats in Vadodara while one each in Bhavnagar and Jamnagar.

 

The polling was conducted on 21st February for the six municipal corporations including Surat, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar and Rajkot.

Ahead of the coming assembly elections, the Tamil Nadu government presented interim budget for the year 2021-22 in the state assembly on the opening day of the budget session today.

 

Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister O Panneerselvam presented the interim budget amid walk out by the members of the opposition DMK and its allies, the Congress and the Indian Union Muslim League.

 

The opposition members later told reporters that they were dissatisfied with the functioning of the state government.

 

The Business Advisory Committee will decide the duration of the budget session in its meeting this afternoon.

In Mizoram, the budget session of the state assembly has begun today with the customary address given by the Governor Sreedharan Pillai.

In his address Governor P. S. Sreedharan Pillai said that his Government continues to accord highest priority to achieving self-sufficiency in food production and agricultural activities.

 

Our Correspondent reports that the Governor has also highlighted achievements and vision of his government towards development of the state.


"In his address, Governor Sreedharan Pillai said that his government has provisioned 125 crore rupees for implementation of the state flagship program - Socio-Economic Development Policy, SEDP. Shri Pillai said that though COVID-19 pandemic has posed a serious challenge, his government worked well towards its mitigation and as a result, Mizoram has the lowest number of cases detected and the lowest casualties in the country.Governor also said that the vaccination of all registered Health Care Workers in the State has been completed, while the vaccination of the Frontline Workers will be completed by this March. India continues reaching new milestones in terms of administering COVID vaccine doses to its health care and front line workers. With over 6 lakh 28 thousand doses given in the last 24 hours, the cumulative vaccination figure has crossed the 1 crore 17 lakh 45 thousand mark.


The COVID-19 recovery rate in the country today stands at  97.24 per cent. Health Ministry said, in the last 24 hours, 13 thousand 255 people were discharged after recovery. Till now, over one crore seven lakh 12 thousand people have recovered from the COVID-19 infection. In the last 24 hours, 10 thousand 584 new cases were reported. The number of active cases in the country stands at nearly one lakh 47 thousand comprising merely 1.34 per cent of the total reported cases. The Health Ministry has informed that 78 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours due to COVID-19 taking the cumulative toll to 1 lakh 56 thousand 463. ICMR has informed that over 6 lakh 78 thousand samples were tested for COVID-19 in the country yesterday. With this the cumulative testing figure has crossed the mark of 21 crore 22 lakh.

In Maharashtra, curfew has been imposed in the municipal limits of Amravati in Vidarbha region, in the wake of spike in Covid cases. Meanwhile a marginal drop in Covid-19 cases was witnessed in the state yesterday. According to the data released by the state health department, a total of 5,210 new cases of novel coronavirus were recorded in last 24 hours. Similarly, with a dip in cases, Mumbai reported 760 fresh cases. 


"A week-long curfew has been imposed in entire Amravati division from the midnight of 22nd February to contain the spread of the virus. Curfew has been imposed in villages bordering the municipal corporation of Amravati as well. According to the district disaster management authority, shops providing essential commodities will remain open from 8 in the morning till 3pm. Weekly markets will remain shut. In government offices, not more than 15 employees will remain P. Schools and tuitions also will remain closed. Meanwhile, the state public health official said that no death related to Covid was reported in the Mumbai metropolitan region yesterday. The Mumbai metropolitan region comprises areas of Mumbai municipal corporation, Thane, Bhiwandi, Navi Mumbai, Mira-Bhayander, Vasai-Virar and Raigad. Kunal Shinde, AIR News, Mumbai"

MP is witnessing a steady rise in covid cases in the last few days.The covid positivity rate has increased to 2.2percent. With neighbouring Maharashtra witnessing a surge in daily Coronavirus cases, the state government yesterday directed for intensifying surveillance in districts bordering Maharashtra. 


"In wake of steady rise in Covid-19 cases administration has become vigilant in  strict adherence to all Covid-19 guidelines and health protocol.The district collectors have been asked to ensure temperature-based screening of people coming from Maharashtra. The home department has written to collectors of 12 districts which share the border with Maharashtra and a few other districts including Bhopal, Indore, Hoshangabad, Betul, Seoni, Chhindwara, Balaghat, Barwani, Khandwa, Khargone, Burhanpur, and Alirajpur  to hold crisis management meeting. Puducherry Lt Governor Dr.Tamilisai Soundararajan has forwarded the resignation letter of Chief Minister V Narayanasamy to the Union Home Ministry for consideration today.

 

"Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy and his cabinet colleagues resigned , after the government lost the confidence vote sought by him in the Legislative Assembly. Later Chief Minister Narayanasamy tendered his resignation letter to the Lieutenant Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan yesterday. The Lieutenant Governor forwarded the letter to the Home Ministry , official sources said. The present total strength of the  assembly is 26, with Congress  9 members ,including speaker, DMK 2 and independent one. Opposition –N R Congress - 7 AIADMK -4, Nominated MLAs  -3. Mean while the DMK MLA Venkatesan who resigned his MLA post, temporarily suspended from the party citing anti-party activities. And the Parliament Secretary to the Chief Minister and Raj Bhavan constituency MLA Mr. Lakshmi Narayanan also sacked from the congress Party. Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government plans to develop Jewar Airport as Asia's biggest airport with six runways. The state government has  set aside two thousand crore rupees for Jewar Airport in its budget for 2021-22 presented in the Assembly yesterday.  The under construction airport in Ayodhya will be named as Maryada Purushottam Sriram Airport.


"The state government has also increased the number of runways of the Jewar Aiport to six, from two proposed earlier. The under construction airport in Ayodhya will be named as Maryada Purushottam Sriram Airport. A provision of 101 crore rupees has been made for it in the budget. Ayodhya airport will also be subsequently made an international airport. After the presentation of the budget, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath told reporters that cities like Aligarh, Moradabad, Meerut will also be linked through air service soon. A CBI team has reached the residence of TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee to question his wife Rujira in connection with a coal smuggling case this morning. The central agency had sent her a notice on Sunday. In her reply, Rujira had mentioned that she was unaware of the reason for being called for questioning or the subject matter of the investigation but she was available  at her residence today. CBI officials had questioned Rujira Banerjee’s sister Menaka Gambhir for three hours in Kolkata yesterday.

Six people were killed when the gelatin sticks they were trying to dispose of exploded accidentally at a stone quarry site in Hirenagaveli village in Chikkaballapur district of Karnataka  today.

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed condolences to the families of the deceased. Mr. Modi said he is pained by the loss of lives due to a mishap at Chikkaballapur in Karnataka and expressed condolences to the bereaved families. Mr Modi prayed for speedy recovery of the injured.


"Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai who visited the accident site has ordered CID investigation against the incident. He said the owners, officials and police found responsible for the incident will be punished. He also said that the Chief Minister has announced a compensation of five lakh rupees to the families of the workers who died in the blast today. A case has been registered in Persandra police station and two persons are said to be arrested in the case. In Bihar six people were  killed in a road accident on Kosi bridge on NH 31 under Kursela police station in Katihar district of the state. The accident occurred when two private vehicles collided in wee hours today. Three people were injured in this accident .They are undergoing treatment at local hospital. 

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the accident. He also wished speedy recovery to the injured.  Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has also expressed grief over the tragic accident.

In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the Central Government will be organising National Toy Fair 2021 from February 27 to March 2, which will be held on a virtual platform. It aims to promote dialogue for the holistic development of the industry and present to the globe the richness and vastness of India's toy manufacturing capabilities. The website for the ‘India Toy Fair 2021’ will enable children, parents, teachers, exhibitors, etc to register themselves to participate in the virtual fair and showcase various facets of the Indian Toy ecosphere.

 

Exhibitors from Mumbai who are participating in the Toy Fair have welcomed this initiative. One of the exhibitors, Prafulla Pangaonkar, Co-founder of Lovely toys, having a manufacturing unit in Mumbai, has also appreciated this initiative of the central government and also requested everyone to take part in this exhibition. Mr Prafulla said at the moment the Indian toy industry is facing problems such as higher taxation, unavailability of proper raw material and cheap Chinese imports. He requested the central government to look into the issues.
