The birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is celebrated as  National Integration Day. Popularly known as the iron man of India, Sardar Patel had also played a key role in building the present day’s All India Services.

We all know Sardar Patel's role in India's freedom struggle and national integration after independence. But he had also played an instrumental role in the creation of the All India Services which he described as the country's "Steel Frame". Once, in his address to the probationers of these services, he asked them to be guided by the spirit of service in day-to-day administration. His exhortation to the probationers to maintain utmost impartiality and incorruptibility of administration is also relevant today. Sardar Patel was the man who visualized the critical role of All India Services in post-independence India. During his address to the constituent assembly, he said that the role of All India Services is not only maintaining the law and order, but running the institutions that provide the binding cement to the society. The present-day all-India administrative services owe their origin to Sardar Patel’s sagacity and thus he is regarded as Father of modern All India Services.
