The war of words between US and China is heating up.  US President Donald Trump took potshots at China over the COVID-19 issue at the virtual United Nations General Assembly meet. He said ,China must be held accountable for having “unleashed” COVID-19 on the world.

However, Beijing  accused Trump of abusing the U.N. platform to provoke confrontation.



In yet another setback for China, US House of Representatives approved a bill to keep Chinese goods out of the USA made with the forced labour of detained ethnic minorities.

The House voted the bill with an overwhelmingly majority  406-3.  The bill declares that any goods produced in the  Xinjiang region of northwestern China are presumptively made with the forced labour of detained Uighurs and other ethnic minorities. Hence , these are banned from being imported to the USA.



On his campaign trail, Democratic Presidential candidate ,Joe Biden asserted that India and the US share a strong interest in a rules-based Indo-Pacific region. He said the two nations can undeniably shape the region for a much better future. Biden was addressing a national virtual fundraiser organised by Indian Americans.  He said, Indian Americans have powered the economic growth of the United States and helped forge cultural dynamism in the country. The Democratic party leader assured the community members that as a president, he would address their concerns with regard to H-1B visa.



India has slammed Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for his remarks on Kashmir at the United Nations General Assembly session. India said that Turkish President's speech constitutes gross interference in India's internal affairs and is completely unacceptable.

India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, TS Tirumurti, said Ankara should learn to respect the sovereignty of other nations and reflect on its policies more deeply.

Last week, India had slammed Pakistan, Turkey and Organisation of Islamic Cooperation at the 46th session of the Human Rights Council for their remarks on India's internal affairs.  



Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and his Sri Lankan counterpart Mahinda Rajapaksa will hold a virtual bilateral summit on September 26.

The summit will provide an opportunity to the two leaders to comprehensively review the broad framework of the bilateral relationship between India and SriLanka. It assumes significance as it comes soon after Parliamentary polls in Sri Lanka and in context of time-tested friendly ties.



Greece and Turkey have agreed to resume talks over their contested maritime claims in the eastern Mediterranean. A statement was issued in this regard by the Greek foreign ministry.

Greek-Turkish talks to resolve disputes were last held in 2016.

Tensions between the two NATO allies flared after Ankara sent its seismic survey ship into disputed waters to map out sea territory for possible oil and gas drilling.

The move comes ahead of the EU summit where members Greece, Cyprus and France are pushing for tough action against Turkey.



United Nations Secretary General António Guterres has appealed the international community to make a global ceasefire a reality by the end of this year. He was addressing  to the Opening of the General Debate of the 75th Session of the General Assembly in New York.



The International Labour Organisation (ILO) warned on Wednesday that the coronavirus pandemic has led to a massive drop in income for workers around the world. It has also led to rising inequality between rich and poor countries. The details have been revealed in the  6th edition of ILO's COVID monitor report. Director-General of ILO , Guy Ryder said that developing countries would need nearly  one  trillion US Dollar in stimulus just to maintain the pre-pandemic gap with richer countries.



Malaysian opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim said he has secured a majority in Parliament to form a new government that is strong, stable and formidable.

Anwar said he has been granted an appointment with the king Tuesday but it was postponed because the king was in a hospital for treatment. He said he will not reveal details until he met the king.

There was no immediate response from the incumbent Prime minister Muhyiddin. Muhyiddin has been grappling to maintain support amid infighting in his coalition that has just a slim two-seat majority.



Condemning Arab -Israel ties, Palestinian foreign minister said that Palestine has quit its current chairmanship of Arab League meetings.

He said, Palestinians see the accords that the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain signed with Israel in Washington a week ago as a betrayal of their cause. It has termed the move as a blow to their quest for an independent state.

Earlier this month, the Palestinians failed to persuade the Arab League to condemn member nations breaking ranks and normalising ties with Israel.



Now, lets take a look at the Coronavirus s from around the world. According to WHO data, the number of infected cases has crossed 31.38 million worldwide. India's COVID-19 cases crossed 5.6 millon tally , while over 4.5 million people have recovered from the disease so far. According to the Health Ministry, the national recovery rate stands at 81.25 per cent.



Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday informed that Russia will soon register a second vaccine against COVID-19.

In August, Russia became the first country in the world to register a vaccine against COVID-19.
