High level talks between the Indian and Chinese military officials are in progress at Moldo- Chushul border post on Chinese side. Our correspondent reports, Lieutenant General level Army officers of India and China are holding discussions to address the current situation in the border areas. More from our correspondent:


"Till the latest information received, the talks between Indian and Chinese army officials are in progress.Meeting scheduled for 11 am. But began slightly late following the ceremonial welcome to the India side Army delegation led by GoC, Fire and Fury Lt Genl Harinder Singh. Chinese side is represented by Major General Lin Lui who is the Corps Commander of South Xinjiang Military Division of PLA. Outcome of the discussion is awaited. Ramesh Chandra, Air News Leh."


Ahead of the talks, Indian Army in a statement said, Indian and Chinese officials continue to remain engaged through the established military and diplomatic channels to address the current situation in the India-China border areas.


This comes a day after the foreign ministry officials of both nations on Friday reviewed the overall scenario of bilateral relations. Joint Secretary (East Asia) in Ministry of External Affairs Naveen Srivastava  held talks with Wu Jianghao, Director General in the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs through video conference yesterday. In this context, they recalled the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries that peaceful, stable and balanced relations between India and China will be a positive factor for stability in the current global situation.


Both sides also agreed that in accordance with the guidance provided by the leadership, the two sides should handle their differences through peaceful discussion, bearing in mind the importance of respecting each other's sensitivities, concerns and aspirations and not allow them to become disputes.

President Ram Nath Kovind has promulgated two ordinances with an aim of giving a boost to rural economy and to help farmers. These two ordinances are The Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Ordinance  and The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Ordinance, 2020. Recently, these two ordinances were approved by the Union Cabinet. 


Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar yesterday wrote to all the Chief Ministers, informing them of the ordinances and solicited their cooperation in implementation of the reforms. 


The Central Government is making comprehensive interventions to facilitate efficiency and effectiveness in agricultural marketing with an aim to raise the income of  farmers.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephonic conversation with the President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame yesterday. The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction at the progress achieved in bilateral ties since his visit to Rwanda in 2018. The two leaders discussed the challenges posed to their healthcare systems and economies by the Covid-19 pandemic.


Prime Minister Modi assured India’s steadfast support to Rwanda’s efforts to combat the coronavirus including medical assistance. He appreciated efforts of the people of Rwanda in combating this challenge and conveyed his best wishes for the health and well-being of the people of Rwanda.


The President of Rwanda warmly recalled the 200 Indian cows gifted by the Prime Minister during his visit, saying  it helped in improving the availability of milk for children and increased the income of farmers.

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, CSIR has come together with the Atal Innovation Mission, to promote a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in various sectors. A Letter of Intent was signed in this regard between CSIR and Niti Aayog yesterday. The two organizations joined hands to support world class start-ups through CSIR incubators under Atal Innovation Mission initiatives and working together on new models of innovation including setting up of CSIR Innovation Parks.

Road, Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has launched national awareness campaign on Prevention of Human and Animal Mortality on Highways. Launching the campaign through Video Conferencing, Mr Gadkari underlined the need for generating awareness and education for the masses at large towards reducing or eliminating mortality on the roads.


The Minister said nearly five lakh road accidents take place in the country every year, in which about 1.5 lakh lives are lost. Mr Gadkari said, he is endeavouring to bring down the number by 20 to 25 per cent by March next year. 


Mr Gadkari also said  to protect animal life on roads, his Ministry has requested all agencies to follow the provisions of the manual issued by Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun.

"Nurturing national sentiments on one hand, the nation en marched on its path of inclusive Vikas Yatra when the uphill task to embolden the economy was handed to Nirmala Sitharaman. As the first full time woman Finance Minister of the country, she announced slew of economic measures catering to needs of middle class , corporates , MSMEs , labourers  and farmers in her two budgets . When the world was reeling under economic mayhem , Ms. Sitharaman's vision remained clear to push employment generation and stimulate the make in India and made for world initiative. Corporate Taxes were slashed to one of the lowest in the world. Huge impetus to ensure supply of drinking water and electricity for every household with emphasis on Gaon, Garib and Kisan was laid down. Ten banks were merged to address the issue of NPAs and provide better services to consumers. Unique opportunity for settling long pending tax disputes has been offered through Vivad Se Vishwas scheme. Even when the economy was masked due to Corona Virus, the Narendra Modi Government through its preemptive and proactive response rolled out a package of one lakh 70 thousand crore rupees on the second day of nationwide lockdown. Direct cash relief was extended to over 40 per cent of the population. Around 66 per cent of the population received extra food grains for three months. The Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan stimulus of over 20 lakh crore rupees added new leaflets of historic reforms. The ambit of MSMEs was widened for all enterprises with turnover up to 250 crore rupees . Farmers were given freedom to sell their produce in any part of the country , even through digital platforms. Salaried employees  and employers were benefited as government committed to bear the 24 percent EPF contribution on their behalf. Provisioning of 3 lakh crore collateral free loan for MSMEs , two lakh crore concessional credit for farmers and self-reliant loan scheme for street vendors were few other major decisions by the government to heal the economy from the viral contagion. India's foreign exchange reserves have surged by 3.43 billion dollars to reach a fresh all-time high of 493.48 billion dollars in the week ended 29th of last month.


A RBI press release has informed that foreign currency assets, a major part of the overall reserves rose by 3.5 billion dollars to over 455 billion dollars. In the previous week, the reserves had increased by three billion dollars to end at over 490 billion dollars. However, total value of the gold reserves continued to decline. Gold reserves went down by 97 million dollars to end at 32.68 billion dollars.

As the Narendra Modi government completed one year of its second term, we take a look at the steps taken by Human Resource Development Ministry to ensure quality education in schools and colleges. An amount of 400 crore rupees had been provided for 2019-20 to create World Class Institutions in the field of education. Besides, several steps have been taken to attract bright non-resident Indians back to India to pursue their research in Indian institutions. Government had set up Atal Innovation Mission to provide exposure to create scientific temper and cultivate the spirit of curiosity and innovation among young minds. Our Correspondent reports that, HRD Ministry has also launched Manodarpan initiative to provide psychological support to  students, teachers and their families  for mental health and emotional well being.


"The world's largest teacher training program, NISHTHA was launched for 42 lakh government teachers across the country. Nearly 17 lakh school heads and teachers have been trained under this programme in 2019-20. SWAYAM 2.0 was launched to facilitate online degree programmes by top ranking University. One of the world’s largest Integrated Online Junction for - School Education, Shagun was launched to improve school education. SWAYAM Prabha TV channel was also launched to telecast high class education. In the last one year, 31 New Kendriya vidyalayas opened and nine new Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas were made functional. Free uniforms were provided to over eight crore children of classes one to eight. A sum of about 120 crore rupees was approved to provide quality education in Madrasha and 71 crore rupees released for infrastructure development in minority institutions during 2019-20. The Government has constituted a task force to examine issues related to age of motherhood, lowering Maternal Mortality Rate and improvement of nutritional levels. The task force will be headed by Jaya Jaitly and it will submit its report by the 31st of July.


The task force set up by the Women and Child Development Ministry will suggest suitable legislations and amendments in existing laws and also chalk out a detailed roll-out plan with timelines to implement these recommendations.


The task Force will examine the issues related to Infant Mortality Rate, Maternal Mortality Rate, Total Fertility Rate, Sex Ratio at Birth, Child Sex Ratio (CSR) and any other issues pertaining to health and nutrition. It will also suggest measures for promoting higher education among women.


Union Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman in her Budget Speech for 2020-21 had announced to set up a task force for women.

Head of Respiratory Care Department in National Institute of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases, Dr. Rajnish Gupta said that everybody should stay at home during the lockdown period to stay safe and special care should be taken of senior citizens.


Head of Geriatrics Department in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Dr. A B Dey said, COVID-19 pandemic has affected senior citizens adversely and they should follow all necessary precautions like stay in home, wear mask, frequent washing of hands. He said, they should remain positive and all their medications for the existing diseases should be continued in the same dose.

The Central Government today said the COVID-19 recovery rate is 48.20 per cent in the country and the total number of recovered people from Corona virus reached one lakh 14 thousand 73. During the last 24 hours, four thousand 611 people were cured of the infection.


Health and Family Welfare Ministry said, nine thousand 887 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the last 24 hours taking the total number of cases to two lakh 36 thousand 657 in the country. It was the highest spike in new cases in one day since the outbreak of Corona pandemic in India. During the last 24 hours, 294 deaths were registered taking the nationwide toll to six thousand 642. The case fatality rate is 2.80 per cent in the country.

The Delhi Government said that a total of one thousand 330 new confirmed cases of Corona virus were reported in Delhi during the last twenty four hours taking the total number of cases to 26 thousand 334.


Delhi Government confirmed that ten thousand 315 people affected with Corona virus have been cured so far and the recovery rate is 39.16 per cent in the city. In the last 24 hours, 417 patients recovered and 58 deaths were reported in the National Capital taking the toll to 708.


The State Government also said that there are eight thousand 505 beds available for the COVID-19 patients and out of these total beds, four thousand 606 beds are vacant.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today said his government will deploy medical professionals at each private hospital to keep tab on available beds for COVID patients. Briefing media, Mr Kejriwal said some hospitals are denying admission to COVID19 patients. He said  those hospitals who think they will be able to do black-marketing of beds will not be spared.

Five Enforcement Directorate officials were found COVID-19 positive in the headquarters of ED situated at Khan Market in Delhi. The building was sanitized yesterday. It has been sealed till tomorrow. The officers who came in contact with the infected officials have been quarantined.

In Tripura, 48 more persons tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday. With this the total number of positive cases in the state rose to 695 with 518 active cases. While 173 Corona patients have been discharged from hospital after recovery so far.

In Mizoram, two more people have tested positive in the last 24 hours for COVID-19 taking the total number of positive cases to 23. From 302 samples tested at Zoram Medical College (ZMC) hospital lab, two samples were confirmed positive and both patients, who are under institutional quarantine, have returned from Delhi recently.

During Lockdown many people who were suffering from serious ailments faced difficult situation since movement was restricted and sometimes they were not able to reach to medical shops due to various reasons. At this juncture the Central and state governments came to the rescue of such persons. Our Lucknow Correspondent tells you how the Prime Minister’s Office helped a cancer patient in varanasi.

In Madhya Pradesh, more than 2 lakh 57 thousand Forest Title Deeds (Lease) of the occupied land have been distributed to claimants.

The Process to distribute Forest Title Deed in the remaining 10 thousand valid claims is underway. The Forest rights claims in the state are being disposed of in the form of a campaign. A report:


"Over 3 lakh 60 thousand claims of Forest Rights have been rejected due to various reasons in the state. These rejected claims are being re-examined through M.P. Van Mitra Portal.  So far profiles of secretaries of 20 thousand 794 Gram Panchayts have been d on the portal and new as well as rejected claims for re-examination have been submitted online by 35 thousand 724 claimants. These claims are being disposed of by Village Forest Rights Committees, Sub-Block Level Committees and District Level Forest Rights Committees. A roadmap has been prepared by the Scheduled Caste Welfare Department for redressal of the claims. The State government is trying to ensure that no eligible claimant of forest rights of the state is deprived of his/her right to forest. Sanjeev Sharma, AIR News, Bhopal."

In Gujarat, the education department yesterday issued home learning guidelines for the students during the period of lockdown. The guidelines are for all the primary, secondary and higher secondary schools in the state.


Our correspondent reports that as per the guidelines, the admission process for class 1 to 9 will begin from June 8 this month. However, all the schools will remain closed till the 30th of this month as per the guidelines by the Union Home Ministry. More from our correspondent.


"Schools have been asked to make necessary arrangements for the distribution of educational material free of cost for the entitled students. This has to be done from 8th June to 13th June by following the social distancing norms. Schools will have to use various online mediums for teaching such as mobile application, television programmes. DD Girnar channel will run the special education programme as per the schedule prepared by the state Education board as well as GCERT. The midday meal programme will be continued during the home learning period and the government will make the necessary arrangement for the distribution. APARNA KHUNT, AIR NEWS, AHMEDABAD."

The Maharashtra government has decided to act strictly against those employees who do not report to work. A notification in this regard states that disciplinary action will be taken against those who remain absent. A report:


"As the state slowly begins to unlock, the Maharashtra Governm A reportent has said that it is mandatory for government employees to be present in office once a week, failing which they will have to face salary cut. As per a notification issued by additional chief secretary - finance Manoj Saunik, disciplinary action will be taken against those who remain absent. The notification said that all government departments have been asked to prepare a roaster of officers and employees affiliated to them. However, those on sanctioned leave or medical leave will be exempt. The order will come into effect from 8th June. The notification was issued after it came to light that employees were not reporting to work during the lockdown and some had even left for their hometowns. Madhuri Pange, AIR News, Mumbai."

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswamy has assured industrialists in the state that more relaxations from lockdown restrictions would be announced. Addressing a CII seminar on the industrial prospects in the state through video-conferencing, he said the Covid-19 situation is being assessed in various regions and relaxations are being announced based on the ground realities. "The Covid-19 situation has led to a slackening in the pace of industrial growth affecting the global industrial climate. To tide over the crisis in Tamil Nadu, the state Government is taking efforts to attract fresh investments. Recently the chief minister wrote to several global industrial conglomerates showcasing the business prospects in the state. Today, in the CII event, he highlighted that industrial practices have been altered considerably by the pandemic and said the Government would always stand by the industry even while taking care of the safety of all. The Trichy Railway Junction has been given the coveted  Gold rating by the Confederation of Indian Industries for implementing various environment friendly measures.

Air India sold over 22 thousand seats in just 15 hours for select destinations in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and Europe. Sale of tickets for the flights under the third phase of Vande Bharat Mission commenced at 5 in the evening yesterday. The national carrier has informed that more seats for other destinations will be added in due course.


Air India will operate around 300 flights to Europe, Australia, Canada, US, UK and Africa between the 10th of this month and the  1st of July during the third phase of Vande Bharat Mission.

INS Jalashwa with  700 Indian nationals departed for India yesterday evening. The ship reached Male on 4th June for her third trip under Operation Samudra Setu. The ship is expected to reach Tuticorin tomorrow. Under the Vande Bharat Mission, Indian Navy's is bringing back Indian nationals from foreign countries.

The President, Vice President and Prime Minister have expressed grief at the demise of former Governor of Manipur, Mizoram, Jharkhand and former Delhi Police Commissioner Ved Marwah.


In a tweet, President Ram Nath Kovind said, Shri Ved Marwah was an outstanding civil servant and an able administrator. He said, after an illustrious career in the IPS, he served as a Governor of Manipur, Mizoram and Jharkhand. The President said,  he will be remembered for his professionalism, competence and integrity.


Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu said, Ved Marwahwas an upright officer known for his integrity and competence.


In a tweet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, Ved Marwah Ji will be remembered for his rich contribution to public life. Mr Modi said, his unwavering courage always stood out during his career as an IPS officer.  The Prime Minister said, he was also a well respected public intellectual.


The President, the Vice President and the Prime Minister expressed condolences to the bereaved family members and admirers.

Senior BJP leader Chandrakanta Goyal, mother of Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, died at her residence in Mumbai due to old age. She was 88. She died late on Friday night.


Piyush Goyal shared the news of her death on Twitter. In a tweet, he said his mother dedicated her entire life towards the service of people and inspired others to do the same.


BJP leader and former Maharashtra minister Vinod Tawde said that she was cremated this morning.


Chandrakanta Goyal was a corporator in Mumbai for one term after the Emergency. Later, she represented the BJP from the Matunga Assembly constituency in Mumbai for three terms.


Her husband, late Ved Prakash Goyal, was a BJP national treasurer for a long time. He was Shipping Minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.

Former India footballer Hamza Koya has died of COVID-19 in Kerala, taking the death toll due to COVID-19 in the State to 15. A report:


"The 61 year old Hamza Koya succumbed to COVID-19 today morning. He was a  former football player who had represented Maharashtra at the Santhosh Trophy and also  an Indians team member in Nehru trophy. The deceased is a native of Parapanagadi, who had returned from Mumbai recently and passed away in Manjeri Medical College in Malappuram.  As the Covid cases are on a rise in kerala, the State to conduct extensive antibody testing  for COVID-19 surveillance  across the State and to detect if community transmission of the disease is happening in Kerala.Presently  the total active Covid cases reached 973.Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also clarified that the complete lockdown on all sundays will be continued as the situation is getting serious. Meanwhile  as monsoon intensifies in Kerala, Met dept predict heavy rain and storm to continue till coming tuesday. Fishermen are warned from venturing into the sea. The National capital Delhi experienced minimum temperature of 23 degrees Celsius. Maximum temperature is expected to hover around 37 degrees Celsius.  The sky will be partly cloudy with possibility of development of thunder and lightning.


Mumbai will witness generally cloudy sky with a few spells of rain or thundershowers.  The minimum temperature recorded today was 23 degrees, while the maximum will go upto 35.


In the south, Chennai will see a partly cloudy sky today. The minimum temperature recorded was 29 degrees Celsius and maximum will go up to 39.


Kolkata will experience partly cloudy sky with possibility of moderate rain or Thunderstorm.  The minimum temperature in the metropolis was 28 degrees Celsius while the maximum will be around 37 degrees.


On to the North, in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the minimum temperature was 21 degrees Celsius in Jammu while maximum will be around 36 degrees Celsius.  The sky will remain partly cloudy with possibility of rain or Thunderstorm or Duststorm.

In Gilgit, the minimum temperature was 15 degrees Celsius and the maximum is expected to be around 38 degrees. The region will have mainly clear sky becoming partly cloudy towards afternoon or evening.


Muzzafarabad will witness partly cloudy sky with possibility of rain or Thunderstorm or Duststorm.
