Prime Minister Narendra Modi hascalled for a comprehensive approach to reduce carbon footprint. Addressing theUnited Nations Secretary-General's climate Action Summit in New York today, hesaid a people’s movement is the need of the hour to tackle climate issues.

"Climate Change को लेकर दुनियाभर में अनेक प्रयास हो रहे हैं। लेकिन हमें यह बात स्‍वीकारनी होगी कि इस गंभीर चुनौती का मुकाबला करने के लिए उतना नहीं किया जा रहा है, जितना की होना बहुत अनिवार्य है। आज जरूरत है एक comprehensiveapproach की, जिसमें education,values, और lifestyle से लेकर developmentphilosphy भी शामिल हों। आज जरूरत है behaviourialchange के लिए एक विश्‍व व्‍यापी आंदोलन खड़ा करने की। Need not greedhas been our guiding principle. और इसलिये, आज भारत इस विषय पर सिर्फ बात करने नहीं बल्कि एक व्यवहारिक road map के साथ आया है।

In his brief address, the PrimeMinister mentioned that India is encouraging e- mobility for transportation. Heinformed the world leaders that on its independence day this August, Indiacalled for a ban on single use plastic.

In a short while from now, the Prime Minister will attend a High levelMeeting on Universal Health Coverage and 'Leaders' Dialogue on StrategicResponses to Terrorist and Violent Extremist Narratives' at the United Nationsheadquarters in New York. Later, the Prime Minister is scheduled to havebilateral meetings with Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani,President of Niger, Mahamadou Issoufou, Prime Minister of Italy, GiuseppeConte, President of Namibia, Hage Geingob and President of Maldives, IbrahimMohammed Solih. He will also have meeting with Executive Director of UNICEF, MsHenrietta H Fore. Later in the day, the Prime Minister will inaugurate GandhiSolar Park at the UN headquarters and Gandhi Peace Garden.

Chief of Army Staff General Bipin Rawat has said, terror modules at Balakotin Pakistan, which were destroyed by the Indian Air Force, are known to havebeen reactivated. He said Indian Defence Forces are always on to face anyhostile situation. He was talking to reporters in Chennai on the sidelines of aprogramme.

General Rawat said, Pakistan is violating the ceasefire agreement to pushterrorists into India. He said, there is information that about five hundredterrorists from across the border are trying to infiltrate into India. GeneralRawat said the army is and would ensure that maximum infiltration bidsare averted.

"There are atleast 500 people who are waiting toinfiltrate. Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested three terrorists involved in four terroracts, including killing of two BJP and RSS leaders in Kishtwar district.Addressing a press conference in Jammu today, Inspector General of Police,Jammu zone, Mukesh Singh said Nissar Ahmad Sheikh, one of the conspirators,along with Nishad Ahmad and Azad Hussain, all residents of Kishtwar, werearrested for their involvement in the four cases which took place betweenNovember last year and September this year. He said efforts are on to arrestother active terrorists who hatched conspiracy in 2017-18 to revive terroractivities in the Chenab valley in Jammu Division. The IGP said two hideoutsset up in the houses of Nissar and Azad, which were used before and after eachof the terror acts, were raided leading to seizure of some pistols, a rifle andother ammunition. Ayushman Bharat - the PradhanMantri Jan Arogya Yojana - completed one year of its launch today. The day wascelebrated as Ayushman Bharat Diwas across the country. Prime Minister NarendraModi has said that Ayushman Bharat is more than just a health care scheme as itis a beacon of hope to more than 50 crore of India's most vulnerable people. Ina tweet, Mr Modi said, it is breaking the vicious cycle of poverty and  disease while making health care affordableand accessible.

Home Minister Amit Shah has mooted the idea of amultipurpose identity card for citizens with all utilities like Aadhaar,passport, driving licence and bank accounts. Mr Shah said, there should be asystem that all data should be put together in a single card and in this regarda digital census is very important. He was speaking after laying the foundation stone forJanganana Bhawan in New Delhi today.

The Home Minister said, the government will complete the Census exercise inMarch 2021 and for the first time, a National Population Register, NPR will beprepared. He said, the NPR will help in addressing problems ranging from lawand order to nutrition.

In Uttar Pradesh, 51 per cent polling was recorded till 6 pm for Hamirpurassembly by election. No untoward incident was reported. Incessant rain andfloods affected the turnout. In the last election, 59 percent voters had casttheir vote. A total of 9 candidates are in the fray. Counting will take placeon Friday.

In Chhattisgarh, more than 53 per cent polling was recorded for the bypoll toMaoist-affected Dantewada assembly constituency. Nine candidates are in thecontest.

Polling for by-election to Bhadarghat seat in Tripura and Pala constituencyin Kerala was also held today.

Domestic stock markets logged a big rally of around three per cent to closeat a more than two-month high today. The stocks surged for a second session ina row after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's announcement of reduction incorporate tax rates. A report:

"The Sensex at Bombay Stock Exchange climbed 1075points, to close at 39,090. The Nifty at National Stock Exchange also gained326 points, to settle at 11,600. At the forex market, the rupee appreciatedmarginally by one paise to 70 rupees and 94 paise against the US dollar.
