The President has appointed Governors for six states. Madhya Pradesh Governor Anandi Ben Patel will now be the new Governor of Uttar Pradesh while Lal Ji Tandon, who is the Governor of Bihar, has been shifted to Madhya Pradesh. Phagu Chauhan will be the Governor of Bihar replacing Lal Ji Tandon. Jagdeep Dhankhar has been appointed as the new Governor of West Bengal while Ramesh Bais is the Tripura Governor. A Rashtrapati Bhavan communique said, R.N.Ravi will be the new Governor of Nagaland. The appointments will take effect from the dates they assume charge of their respective offices.


The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is conducting searches at various locations in Tamil Nadu as part of its probe into the Ansarullah terror module case. Police sources said today, the raids are being carried out in Chennai, Madurai, Tirunelveli and Ramanathapuram district. The searches come a day after a special NIA court had granted the probe agency eight-day custody of 16 people arrested for allegedly attempting to set up the terror outfit, Ansarullah. While 14 accused were arrested after they were deported to India last week by Saudi Arabia for allegedly attempting to set up terror outfit 'Ansarullah' in Tamil Nadu, two had been picked up from the state last Saturday.


Defence Minister Rajnath Singh today paid  tribute to martyred soldiers at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass as part of week-long celebrations of the 20th Anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas.  He also signed the Visitors Book at the  War Memorial. Mr Singh, in his message in the Visitors Book  wrote that on the historical occasion he salutes all those warriors of Kargil War who sacrificed everything for the sake of the nation. The courage and valour of the martyrs is a lesson to all Indians today, he added. The Defence Minister interacted with troops and  reviewed the situation along  the Line of Actual Control with China a short while ago. Later in the afternoon, the Defence Minister will inaugurate two bridge projects on the rivers Ujh in Kathua district and Basantar in Samba district of Jammu division. More from our correspondent;

"These two bridges are significant for border security and connectivity for locals.  About One-kilometre  long Ujh Bridge in Kathua district has been constructed at an estimated cost of  44 crore rupees . Its construction work was started in 2016 . The bridge will connect numbers of the border villages with two districts of Samba and Kathua and also connect neighbouring state Punjab with J&K . Basantar Bridge  in Samba district of Jammu Division has been constructed  by Border Roads Organistation  at an  estimated cost of  41.70 crore  rupees .  These two bridges will prove a boon for the people of the border districts of Samba and Kathua  as they will  now get improved connectivity  with their district Headquarters. The Defence Minister is accompanied by Minister of State, in the Prime Minister Office, Dr. Jitendra Singh.

The border guarding forces like the Indo-Tibetan Border Force and Border Security Force today launched a week-long special series of programmes that will showcase the tales of bravery of soldiers as well as police and paramilitary personnel. BSF will organize a weapons display event and camel safari for the youth so that they can be inspired to join these forces and serve the country. The Kargil war was declared over on 26th July, 1999, after Indian soldiers pushed back the Pakistani troops, a bulk of them drawn from the neighbouring country's Northern Light Infantry, from the captured peaks.


In yet another incident of ceasefire violation, Pakistani troops started unprovoked firing along the Line of Control in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir today. Indian Army, however, effectively retaliated to the firing. According to Defence Spokesperson, Pakistani Army started unprovoked firing and shelling around 9 AM in Mendhar Sector of Poonch. Yesterday evening, Pakistani Army violated the ceasefire by firing along the Line of Control in Rajouri District .


Prime Minister Narendra Modi will share his thoughts with the people in his 'Mann Ki Baat' programme on All India Radio on the 28th of this month at 11 A.M. It will be the second edition of the programme after Mr Modi assumed office for his second term. Our Correspondent reports, the Prime Minister has been raising various important issues through his monthly programme which is aired on the last Sunday of every month. In the last episode, Prime Minister Modi had highlighted the importance of democracy.

In Odisha, amidst tight security arrangement polling is on for the bye-election to Patkura Assembly seat in Kendrapda district. 42 per cent polling has been recorded till 1 PM. More from our correspondent:

"The polling is continuing peacefully in all 309 polling centre. Over 2 lakh 44 thousand 747 voters are expecting to exercise their votes. The pace of the voter turnout during the initial hours was low due to rain. Now, the voters are seen standing in queues to cast their vote. There is big contest between BJP and BJD candidates. The videography of the polling is also being done. Mechanical defects found in booth number 278, have been corrected. The polling will continue till 6 pm and the counting will take place on 24th of this month. Tapan Maharana, AIR News, Cuttack."


In Jharkhand, four Naxals, who were among those who were involved in killing of five policemen in Saraikela on 14th of last month, have been arrested by the police. Briefing the media about it, DIG of Kolhan range, Kuldeep Diwedi said that the arrested Naxals have confessed their involvement in the daylight killing of the policemen in weekly Kukuru Bazar under Tiruldih police station of Saraikela Kharsawan district. 


Union Science and Technology and Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan today said the Scientific Social Responsibility is the need of  hour to realize the new India vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Addressing scientists and officials of CSIR laboratories in Hyderabad, he asked them to work in a proactive and out of box way to reduce suffering of people. He earlier inaugurated the next generation sequencing laboratory at the CCMB. He also inaugurated an Agro-mission project to produce drugs for rare diseases.


Reserve Bank Governor Shaktikanta Das has reiterated his concerns over the "less-than-desired-level" of policy rate transmission by lenders. He met the heads of public sector banks in Mumbai yesterday. The central bank said in a statement that the Governor spoke about the impact of the post-budget initiatives to address the credit crisis being faced by NBFCs and the role that banks can play in mitigating the same. He also acknowledged discernible improvements in the banking sector and pointed out that there are still several challenges to be addressed, particularly in regard to stressed asset resolution and credit flows to the needy sectors.


Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amrinder Singh has accepted Navjot Singh Sidhu's resignation and sent it to the Governor of Punjab V P Singh Badnore for approval. An official spokesperson said, Captain Amarinder, who had been unwell for the last two days, since his arrival from Delhi, saw the resignation letter this morning. Former Cabinet Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, who had not taken over the charge of the new department since the portfolios were shuffled on 6th June, had resigned from the State Cabinet on 10th of June but sent his resignation to Rahul Gandhi. Later, he made public his resignation through social media after around 35 days and disclosed that he had sent his resignation to the Chief Minister also.


In Uttar Pradesh, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi-Vadra met the family members of victims of Sonbhadhra land dispute case at Chunar Fort guest house in Mirzapur. She was brought to the guest house after she squatted on the road with her supporters, insisting that she be allowed to proceed and meet the victims' families. She continues to be under detention at the guest house.


The Bihar Government has instructed monitoring of embankments of different rivers criss crossing  north parts of the state following the forecast of moderate to heavy rains in their catchment areas in Nepal.Total nine breaches in embankments on different rivers were reported so far following torrential rainfall in Nepal and it's bordering districts in Bihar. A report:

"Most of the north Bihar is affected by floods mostly caused by  rivers originating in Nepal. No fresh breach has been reported from any embankment from last week. According to Central Water Commission moderate to heavy rains predicted in catchment areas of Kosi, Kamla Balan, Gandak, Bagmati and Adhwara group of rivers , may lead to surge in their water levels which overtopped at many places. Over 66 lakh 76 thousand people spread over 12 districts have been affected due to current floods. Over one lakh people have taken shelter in 131 relief camps.  With K K Lal's Report from Patna, Sanjeev Jasrotia , AIR News.


In Andhra Pradesh, Ministry of youth affairs and sports in collaboration with the UN volunteers under UNDP, aiding through Nehru Yuva Kendra Sanghatan, has two initiatives that are planned for the future. More from our correspondent :  

" In Andhra Pradesh, the percentage of dropout school students is about 58.9.  In Anantapur of Andhra Pradesh, Nehru Yuva Kendra is organising  skill development training programmes partnering with various organisations for the rural youth to motivate and realise their potential in terms of confidence language skills their ability to analyse and to value their skills, including the youth living with HIV positive status. UN volunteer district youth coordinator D.sivakumar says, 

"Nehru yuva Kendra ananthapuram is putting all the efforts for empowering of youth by emphasising on skill India the program education on basic vocation and soft skills popularly known as EBVSS has made hundred HIV positive Young women in the district in addition to 650 youth.  For the sake of computer literacy for the children of trafficking victims NYK partnered with the Lions club of Anantapur and worked for their welfare.

Thus, the Pradhan Manthri Kaushal Vikas Yojana  takes a momentum in Ananthpur Distrrict in AP,  with inputs from Harikrishna, Dr.G. Kondala Rao, AIR, Vijayawada."


The landmark Motihari-Amlekhgunj petroleum products pipeline between India and Nepal has been completed and ready for commercial operation. This is the first trans-national petroleum pipeline from India and first South Asian oil pipeline corridor.

"Motihari-Amlekhgunj is the first transnational petroleum pipeline form India and first South Asian oil pipeline corridor. It is also the first oil pipeline in Nepal.The prestigious project is expected to be inaugurated soon by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Nepalese counterpart K P Sharma Oli. 69 kms long pipeline has been constructed by India in just 15 months, half of its 30 months deadline. Since 1974, Nepal has been importing its entire major petroleum products including petrol, diesel, ATF and LPG from India. The annual export worth of these products is over Eight thousand five hundred crore rupees. The oil pipeline will ensure smooth, cost effective and environment friendly supply of petroleum products to Nepal. For AIR News, this is Raj Kumar from Kathmandu."


The White House has said that the United States will ensure that Pakistan's steps against terrorist outfits are irreversible and sustainable  and not just window dressing. A statement issued to this effect said, the US is not taking at face-value, Pakistan's actions against terrorists outfits, including the arrest of Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed. 


In Badminton, ace Indian shuttler P.V. Sindhu will play her semi final match against Chen Y of China at the Indonesia Open today. Sindhu defeated Japan's N Okuhara in straight games 21-14, 14-07 in the quarter final. Chen Y defeated Zhang B of the US 21-14, 21-17, 16-21 in quarter finals.
