Narendra Modi will be sworn in as country's Prime Minister for the second term on Thursday. President Ram Nath Kovind will administer the Oath of Office and Secrecy to Mr Modi and other members of Union Council of Ministers at a function in Rashtrapati Bhavan. The event will take place in the evening at 7 PM. A report

"After the landslide victory in the Lok Sabha polls, Mr Modi has been elected unanimously as the leader of the National Democratic Alliance yesterday. Later, he called on the President and staked claim to form government at the Centre. The new Cabinet of Narendra Modi is expected to have representation of all states and regions, especially from West Bengal and Odisha where BJP has performed well. Several ministers of previous government are likely to retain their place in the Cabinet this time as well. Prime Minister has asserted that his government is even more determined to fulfill the dreams of 130 crore Indians and create the New India that they have dreamt of. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, the coming five years is the time to regain lost position of India in the world order. Addressing a public rally in Ahmedabad this evening, Mr Modi said, India will progress with everyone's cooperation.The Prime Minister said, the big mandate brings big responsibilities and it is important to remain humble and grounded in the wake of such a massive win.

He said that people had voted in record numbers first time after the Independence despite the scorching heat. Mr. Modi said that mandate of 2014 was ed on development of Gujarat, while during this elections, he felt that people themselves were contesting.

The Prime Minister said, he was in dilemma till yesterday, whether to attend this program or not following the gruesome fire tragedy in Surat but on the other hand he had to pay respect to his mother land. Mr Modi said, he also wanted to seek blessings of his mother and people of Gujarat before swearing in ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, BJP president Amit Shah said, BJP has reached each and every home of the county due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi received congratulatory telephone calls from Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, former Maldives President Mohamed Nasheed and former Prime Minister of Nepal Madhav Nepal on his victory in the recent general elections. External Affairs Ministry said in a press release that Prime Minister Modi thanked the Pakistan Prime Minister for his telephone call and greetings. Recalling his initiatives in line with his government’s neighbourhood first policy, Mr Modi referred to his earlier suggestion to fight poverty jointly. He stressed that creating trust and an environment free of violence and terrorism were essential for fostering cooperation for peace, progress and prosperity in the region.

Former Maldives President Nasheed noted that the relationship between Maldives and India had deepened in recent times.

The former Prime Minister of Nepal also expressed the confidence that India’s emergence as a front-ranking world power would qualitatively uplift the entire region.


UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash today said, UAE - India relations are set for another great innings. Welcoming Prime Minister Narendra Modi's acceptance speech in the central Hall of the parliament yesterday, the UAE Minister in a tweet said he was looking forward to further strengthen UAE's splendid relations with India. Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was one of the first few world leaders who had called up Prime Minister Modi to congratulate him on his historic victory in the general elections on the counting day itself.


Sikkim Governor Ganga Prasad has invited the Sikkim Karantikari Morcha (SKM) President and leader of lagislative party Prem Singh Golay to form the New Government in the state.Prem Singh Golay will take oath as New Chief Minister of Sikkim along with his council of ministers at Palzor Stadium in Gangtok at 10 AM tomorrow. The oath ceremony will be open for public. Thousands of supporters and party worker are expected to be present in the swearing in ceremony.

SKM Party defeated the SDF party who ruled the state for 25 years under it's leader Pawan Chamling as longest service Chief Minister in Sikkim. In 32 member Sikkim assembly the SKM won 17 seats while the SDF won 15 seats.


Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu and his Council of Ministers tendered their resignation to Governor Dr. BD Mishra. The Governor has accepted the resignation and asked Mr. Khandu and the Council of Ministers to continue till the new Government is sworn in.

BJP for the first time in the state has won 41 seats in the 60 member state assembly. The tenure of the existing 9th Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly ends on June 1.


Odisha Governor Ganeshi Lal has invited Naveen Patnaik to form the next government in the state. After being elected as head of the BJD legislature party, Mr Patnaik today met the Governor and staked his claim to form the new government. More from our correspondent:

"Naveen Patnaik, who led the party to the huge victory in Odisha assembly elections, is scheduled to be sworn in as the chief minister for a record fifth consecutive term on Wednesday. Party sources said swearing-in ceremony will be simple and take place at an open ground in Bhubaneswar. The BJD won 112 of the 146 assembly seats in the recently concluded assembly polls. The state has 1 hundred 47 assembly segments, but polling in Patkura was postponed due to the death of a candidate and then due to cyclone Fani. The present Odisha Legislative Assembly will complete its term on June 11, 2019. SN Pattnaik, AIR News, Bhubaneswar."


YSR Congress Party President and Andhra Pradesh CM-designate Y S Jaganmohan Reddy today said, his party could only request and not demand or command the special category status for ther state. Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, Mr Reddy said, during his meeting with the Prime minister earlier in the day he has requested to be magnanimous towards the people of Andhra Pradesh.

In a tweet, Mr Modi said, he had an excellent meeting with Andhra Pradesh’s chief minister designate. Mr Modi said, both of them had a fruitful interaction on several issues pertaining to Andhra Pradesh's development and assured him all possible support from the Centre during his term.

Mr. Y S Jaganmohan Reddy was unanimously elected as the Legislative Party leader yesterday. He is scheduled to take oath on Thursday.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit his parliamentary constituency Varanasi tomorrow. It will be his first visit to Varanasi after getting a splendid victory second time from this seat. A report:

"Narendra Modi will go for darshan of kashi vishwanath temple and will seek blessings of lord shiva. PM is also scheduled to address BJP workers at trade facilitation centre. BJP spokesperson Ashok Pandey told AIR that Narendar Modi will thank people of kashi all along the 6 kilometer long passage from police line to kashi vishwanath in which general public and party workers will also welcome him at various points. Sushil Chandra Tiwari, AIR News, Varanasi."


Government today termed as false and baseless the reports in a section of media regarding health condition of Union Minister  Arun Jaitley. In a  tweet, Principal Spokesperson of the government  advised media to stay clear of such rumour mongering.


In Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered Director General of Police to take stern action against the perpetrators of the murder of BJP leader Surendra Singh in Amethi district. Yogi Adityanath asked the state police chief to show results within 12 hours and an IG rank of officer has been send to oversee the investigation. So far seven people have been taken into custody and they are being interrogated.

Meanwhile, MP of Amethi Smriti Irani, who was in Delhi, flew to Amethi, where she met Surendra Singh's family and consoled them.


In Bihar, two MLAs and one MLC of Rashtriyae Lok Samta Party( RLSP) today joined Janta Dal (United). Two MLAs, Lalan Paswan and Sudhansu Sheikhar, have written a letter to Assembly Speaker Vijay Kumar Chaudhary in this regard while MLC Sanjiv Singh Shyam has written a letter to Deputy Chairman of Legistive Council Haroon Rashid.

These legislators had earlier revolted against RLSP Chief Upendra Kushwaha decision to snap ties with NDA and join the Mahagathbandhan.  


A team of CBI officials visited the residence of former Kolkata police commissioner Rajeev Kumar in Kolkata this evening. As Mr. Kumar was not available at his residence, the four members CBI team went to the office of Deputy Commissioner's South to find out the location of Mr. Kumar. As per preliminary information received, notice has been issued to Rajeev Kumar to attend the CBI office in Kolkata tomorrow in connection with Saradha Chit Fund scam.

Mr. Kumar was heading the probe constituted by the State Government before CBI took over. It is alleged that Mr. Kumar tampered many documents over the scam in which many influential persons were involved.


In Pakistan, at least three persons were killed and 15 others, including five soldiers, injured as members from the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM), led by two MPs, allegedly attacked an army check post in country's restive North Waziristan region today.

MPs Ali Wazir and Mohsin Javed attacked the Kharqamar check post in North Waziristan tribal district. Pakistani military media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations, said in a statement that due to firing of the group, five army soldiers got injured.


In Britain, at least eight candidates have joined the fray to battle it out to take over the reins from Prime Minister Theresa May.

May had announced her resignation earlier this week and is set to formally step down as Tory leader and PM on June 7.

The formal segment of the party leadership contest will then kick off on June 10, but prospective candidates have already begun laying out their bids for the top job.

While hard Brexiteer Boris Johnson, the former foreign secretary, is seen as the frontrunner to succeed May, the contest still remains wide open to at least seven other contenders.


Citizens across 21 European nations are voting today for new representatives at the European Parliament in the last leg of four day poll. Seven nations of the 28-member bloc have already voted. The European parliamentary election is the second largest democratic exercise in the world. Current European lawmakers' terms end on 1st July and the new parliament will take their seats in Strasbourg the following day.


Iraqi leaders have warned of the risks of war during a visit by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, whose country is locked in a tense standoff with the United States.

Zarif's visit to neighbouring Iraq -- which is caught in the middle of its two allies the US and Iran -- follows a decision by Washington to deploy 1,500 additional troops to the Middle East.


Apurvi Chandela today bagged a gold medal in women's 10m Air Rifle competition after a closely-fought contest in the third International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup at Munich, Germany.  She shot a score of 251 in the final to outshine Wang Luyao of China, who shot 250.8. Another Indian in the fray, Elavenil Valarivan also made it to the finals. But she missed out on a bronze medal to Xu Hong of China by just 0.1 points and finished fourth.

In the women's 25m Pistol, Asian Games champion Rahi Sarnobat stood in second position with a score of 294. With a good rapid fire round tomorrow, she can fancy her chances of winning a medal as well as an Olympic quota. Manu Bhaker shot 289 and was a bit behind in 24th spot, while Chinki Yadav shot 276 to be in 95th place.


French Open Tennis, the second Grand Slam of the season, began in Paris today.  In men's singles Prajnesh Gunneswaran who is the only Indian lost to H.Dellien of Bolivia 1-6,3-6,1-6 in the opening round. The third seeded Roger Federer beat world No. 73 Lorenzo Sonego of Italy 6-2,6-4,6-4 in the opening round. Other prominent winners in opening round of Men's Singles are K.Nishikori and M.Cilic.

In Women's Singles, German fifth seed Angelique Kerber slumped to a 6-4, 6-2 defeat to Russian teenager Anastasia Potapova who was making her French Open debut. The other prominent winners among women's singles were P.Martic and G.Muguruza.

Indians figuring in the Doubles are Leander Paes, Rohan Bopanna, Divij Sharan and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan, but they will be playing with separate partners.
