Counting of votes in 542 Lok Sabha seats is underway. As per latest trends BJP appears set for a come back with a lead of 294 followed by Congress 50. 

NDA is leading in 344 , UPA 89 and others 109. BJP alone is leading in 294 seats and Congress 50. DMK 23, JDU 16, Shiv Sena 20, YSR Congress 24, TRS 8, BSP 12,  SP 8, Trinamool Congress 23, Biju Janata Dal 14 and others 5.

 

Prominent candidates who are leading include Senior BJP leader and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Party Chief Amit Shah, Union Ministers Smriti Irani and Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadhkari, Hansraj Ahir, Poonam Mahajan and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi. While, Prime Minister and Senior BJP leader Narendra Modi is leading in Varanasi after the first round of counting, Party Chief Amit Shah is ahead in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, Rajnath Singh in Lucknow, Smriti Irani in Amethi, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi in Raebareli, Congress President Rahul Gandhi in Wayanad in Kerala and Shashi Tharoor in Thiruvananthapuram. Former Maharashtra Chief Minister and Congress candidate Ashok Chavhan is trailing in Nanded and party candidate Shailja Kumari in Ambala seat in Haryana. In Chandigarh, Kirron Kher of BJP is leading against Pawan Kumar Bansal of Congress. 


In Punjab, BJP's Sunny Deol  is leading from Gurdaspur parliamentary constituency, Shiroman Akali Dal (SAD) Sukhbir Singh Badal in Firozpur and  Sitting MP and AAP candidate Bhangwant Mann in Sangrur. 


In Himachal Pradesh, the ruling BJP candidates are leading in all the four Lok Sabha seats of Mandi, Kangra, Hamirpur and Shimla. They include Anurag Thakur, Ram Swaroop, Kishan Kapoor and Suresh Kashyap. A report from our Shimla correspondent:

"The ruling BJP is leading with huge margin on all four Lok Sabha seats. Infact in some seats the margin is beyond 3 lakh votes. Congrees is nowhere in the frame. It is interesting to mention here that congress is trialing from all 68 assembly segments. From Mandi, the sitting BJP MP Ram Swaroop of BJP is leading with over 3,37,000 votes against his nearest rival Aashray Sharma of Congress. BJP candidate Kishan Kapoor of BJP is leading with 4,23,000 votes against his nearest rival Pawan Kajal of Congress from Kangara. Where as Hamirpur seat sitting BJP MP Anurag Thakur of BJP is leading with over 376000 votes against his nearest rival Ram Lal Thakur of Congress. In shimla BJP candidate Suresh Kashyap of BJP is leading with 324000 votes against his nearest rival Col Dr Dhani Ram Shandil of Congress. Sanjeev Sundriyal, AIR News, Shimla."


In Uttar Pradesh, Union Ministers Sanjeev Kumar Balyan is leading in Muzaffar Nagar, V K Singh in Ghaziabad, Mahesh Sharma in Gautam Buddha Nagar, Santosh Kumar Gangwar in Bareilly, Manoj Sinha in Ghazipur, Anupriya Patel in Mirzapur, Niranjan Jyoti in Fatehpur, Maneka Gandhi in Sultanpur, State Cabinet Minister Reeta Bahuguna Joshi in Allahabad, Feroze Varun Gandhi in Pilibhit, Film Actor Hema Malini in Mathura and Jagdambika Pal in Dumaria Ganj. The State Congress Chief  Raj Babbar is ahead in Fatehpur Sikri, Senior Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav in Mainpuri, Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav in Azam Garh and Dimple Yadav in Kannauj. Party candidate Poonam Sinha is trailing in Lucknow.


In Uttarakhand, BJP is leading in all the five seats. They include  Union Minister Ajay Tamta, State BJP Chief Ajay Bhatt, Udham Singh Nagar and Ramesh Pokhrial Nishank. In Bihar, BJP and JDU are leading in 16 seats each, Lok Janshakti Party in 6 and RJD in 2. Prominent among them are Union Ministers R.K. Singh, Giriraj Singh, Radha Mohan Singh, Rajiv Pratap Rudy and Ravi Shankar Prasad. In Jamui constituency, Lok Jan Shakti Party candidate Chirag Kumar Paswan son of Ram Vilas Paswan is leading. In Patliputra constituency, Misha Bharti, RJD candidate and daughter of Laloo Prasad Yadav, has taken a modest lead over her nearest BJP rival Ram Kripal Yadav.


In Jharkhand, BJP candidates are leading in Hazaribagh, Dumka, Dhanbad, Ranchi, Kodarma, Jamshedpur,Chatra and Palamau seats. Congress candidates are ahead in  Khunti and Lohardanga. In Gujarat, BJP is leading in all the 26 seats in the state as per the available trends. The party is also leading in all the 7 Lok Sabha seats in Delhi. Prominent among them are former cricketer Gautam Gambhir is leading in East Delhi, State BJP President Manoj Tewari in North East Delhi, Union Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan in Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha seats.


In Maharashtra, BJP is leading with 23 and Shivsena with 18 seats out of total 48 seats in the state as per the available trends. NCP has taken lead on four while Congress, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen and Independent candidates are leading on one seat each. More from our correspondent :


"The BJP-Sena alliance surged from the word “go” when the counting began in the morning today to take huge leads in most of the Lok Sabha constituencies in the state. The picture was no different at all the six seats in Mumbai as well as in adjoining Thane, Kalyan, Nashik, Palghar, Bhiwandi, Dhule and Nandurbar where the BJP-Sena alliance seems to be sweeping the polls. Actor turned politician and Congress candidate Urmila Matondkar is trailing by over 90,000 votes against BJP’s Gopal Shetty at Mumbai north seat. The high-profile Mumbai south seat where Congress fielded Milind Deora is trailing by over 30,000 votes and Sanjay Nirupam of Congress from Mumbai NE is trailing by 40,000 votes. In Goa, BJP candidate and Union Minister Shripad Naik is leading in the North Goa and Congress leader Francisco Sardinha in South Goa constituency.In West Bengal, trends are available from all the 42 constituencies. All India Trinamool Congress is leading in 24, BJP in 17 and Congress in one. Prominent leading candidates are Union Ministers Babul Supriyo Baral in Asansol and S.S. Ahluwalia in Burdwan-Durgapur and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury of Congress Baharampur. Trinamool leaders who are marching ahead include Satabdi Ray, Saugata Ray and Sudeep Bandopadhyay. In Midnipur constituency, State BJP chief Dilip Ghosh has taken a marginal lead over Manas Ranjan Bhunia of All India Trinamool Congress candidate. More from our correspondent:


"BJP has made deep inroads into West Bengal from increasing its seat from two to present position. Top brass of the BJP leadership Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually camped in Bengal during campaign period by frequent visits to achieve their targets. Prominent candidates who are leading includes Union Ministers S.S. Ahluwalia, Babul Supriyo, State BJP President Dilip Ghosh, Sudip Bandopadhyay, Abhisek Banerjee of Trinamool Congress and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury of Congress. The erosion of vote banks of Trinamool Congress is a new political dimension in the state. While, BJP is saying that they have won semi-final games and being prepared for wining the battle in next Assembly Elections in the state in 2021. Arijit Chakraborty, AIR News, Kolkata."


In Odisha, Biju Janata Dal is leading in 14 and BJP in seven. In Puri, there is a neck and neck fight between BJP's national spokesperson Dr. Sambit Patra and Pinaki Mishra of Biju Janata Dal. In Kalahandi constituency, State BJP President Basanta Kumar Panda has increased his lead over Bhakta Charan Das of Congress.


After first round of counting from Hamir Pur Parliamentary constituency in Himachal Pradesh BJP's Anurag Thakur is leading. 

In Sikkim, Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) and Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) are neck and neck. In Nagaland also it is a close contest between  Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party and Indian National Congress. In Meghalaya, as per the latest trends, the National People’s Party, NPP’s Agatha Sangma is leading over her Congres rival Mukul Sangma in Tura. In Tripura, BJP has taken a lead in both Tripura East and Tripura West constituencies. In Jammu & Kashmir, National Conference leader Farooq Abdulla is leading in Srinagar and BJP candidates Dr. Jitendra Singh in Udhampur and Jugal Kishore in Jammu.In Andhra Pradesh, out of 25 parliamentary seats, YSR Congress is ahead at 24 and Telgu Desam Party one. "The 10-year old dream of YSR Congress Chief Jagan Mohan Reddy to become chief minister  is about to come true. This 45 plus old young man, a junior in politics compared to other senior politicians like Chandra Babu Naidu is  making a mark at national level with his party sweeping the polls in the 2019 elections. Though the results were not declared officially, he trends that are coming in clearly says that he would stake a claim to form the government as his party is  leading in more than 150 seats which is almost double than the required number  to form the government. This shows that the poll promises given by Jagan Mohan Reddy have convinced the voters to favour him and give him a chance in  stead of  returning TDP to power for the second time. In Telangana, TRS is leading at Karimnagar, Mahabubabad, Malkajgiri, Nagarkurnool, Nalgonda, Warangal, Zahirabad and Medak while  BJP is ahead at Adilabad.

In Chhattisgarh, Vijay Bhagel of BJP in Durg constituency and Jyotsna Charandas Mahant of Congress in Korba constituency are leading. In Madhya Pradesh, BJP leaders Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur is leading in Bhopal and Nandkumar Singh Chouhan in Khandwa constituency. In Andaman & Nicobar islands BJP is leading in the lone seat.


In Kerala, UDF led by Congress is leading in all the 19 seats followed by LDF one. In Ernakulm Union Minister K J Alphonse is trailing. In Pathanamthitta which was another major point of attention due to sabarimala, UDFs Anto Antony is leading by 18000 votes.In Tamil Nadu, the UPA comprising the DMK, Congress and the Left are having a phenomenal lead whereas in the Assembly bye-polls, the ruling AIADMK and main opposition DMK are racing neck and neck. The UPA is leading in 36 out of 38 seats while AIADMK and the PMK of the NDA are leading in one seat each. Notable among the candidates who are leading include Ms Kanimozhi, Dr. Kalanidhi Veerasamy and Dayanidhi Maran.


In Karnataka, out of 28 Lok Sabha seats BJP is leading in 23 seats while Congress is ahead in three. JD(S) and others have a lead in one seat each. BJP is leading at Bangalore North, Bangalore Central, Bangalore South, Bellary, Bidar, Bijapur, Chamarajanagar, Chikballapur, Chitradurga, Dakshina Kannada, Davanagere, Dharwad, Haveri, Uttara Kannada and Koppal. JD(S) is leading at Hassan and Tumkur. Congress is leading in Puducherry. Out of the total 543 Parliamentary seats, elections were held in 542 constituencies. Over eight thousand candidates are in the fray. The elections to the Vellore constituency in Tamil Nadu was cancelled on the grounds of excessive use of money power. Trends are also available for assembly elections in 4 states of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh and by polls in Tamil Nadu.


In Andhra Pradesh, YSR Congress is leading in 150 seats followed by TDP in 23 and Jansena Party and Independent in 1 each. Chief Minister Chandra Babu Naidu leading in Kuppam while his son Nara Lokesh is trailing in Magalagiri. YSR Congress President Jagan Mohan Reddy has established a lead in Pulivendla. In Arunachal Pradesh, BJP is ahead in 17 constituencies and National People's Party, JD(U) and Independent one each.


In Odisha, BJD is leading in 98 seats followed by BJP in 30, Congress in 14 and CPI(M) and Independent in one each. Chief Minister Naveen Pattnaik is ahead  in Bijepur.


"The Biju Janata Dal appeared set to retain power as its candidates led in 110 of the 146 Assembly seats from where counting trends were available, leaving the Congress and BJP far behind. Good news for the BJP poured in parts of western Odisha and capital city Bhubaneswar where the party was ahead of others on 7 seats of 21 Lok Sabha seats of the State. Among the BJD leaders who were on the victory lap included chief minister Naveen Patnaik in Bijepur and Hinjili assembly seats and BJP leader and miinister Jual Oram in Sundergarh. Sikkim Krantikari Morcha, is leading in 7 seats while SDF in two in State Assembly elections. Chief Minister Pawan Chamling is leading in Poklok-Kamrang.In Tamil Nadu, Assembly by-polls, DMK is ahead in 11 while AIADMK in 10 seats.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah over phone and congratulated them for BJP-led led NDA's what he said stupendous victory in Lok Sabha elections. In a tweet, Mr Singh hailed the victory as the outcome of Mr Modi's visionary leadership, Mr Shah's dynamism and the hard work of millions of BJP workers. He thanked the people of the country and termed the performance as historic. The Home Minister said, people have given a decisive mandate to NDA and reposed  faith in Mr Modi's astute leadership and his vision of New India.

BJP Parliamentary board is meeting at the party headquarters in New Delhi today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior leaders will attend the meet. Mr Modi will also meet party workers there.BJP has also asked all winning MPs to come to Delhi by Saturday.

The Congress today said, it was feeling dejected as trends are not in line with the expectation of the party. Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, party spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill said, if the trends hold then Congress needs to introspect as to why its campaign failed to resonate with the people of the country.

Trinamool Congress Chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee congratulated the winning candidates of the Lok Sabha polls but stressed on the need of a complete review of it. In a tweet, Ms Banerjee congratulated the winners and said all losers are not losers. She said, VVPATs would be matched after the counting process was over.

The Sensex hit the 40,000 mark for the first time ever in morning trade today, while the Nifty breached the 12,000 level as early trends showed a huge majority for the ruling NDA. The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange zoomed over 900 points to hit an intra-day high of 40,012. The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange spurted 265 points to touch a record 12,003.At the foreign exchange market, the rupee appreciated 14 paise to 69 rupees 51 paise against the dollar.
