As campaigning for the second phase of Lok Sabha elections comes to an end this evening, leaders of political parties have intensified their efforts to woo the voters. 97 constituencies spread over 13 States and one Union Territory will go to polls in this phase on Thursday.

All 39 Parliamentary constituencies of Tamil Nadu, 14 in Karnataka, 10 Maharashtra, 8 in Uttar Pradesh,  5 each in Assam, Bihar and Odisha, 3 each in Chhattisgarh and West Bengal, and 2 in Jammu and Kashmir and one each in Manipur, Tripura and Puducherry will be covered in this phase.

Notification for the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections will be issued today. 59 constituencies spread over 7 states will go to polls in this phase on the 12th of May. States where voting will take place in this phase are Uttar Pradesh 14 seats, Haryana 10, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal 8 each, Delhi 7 and Jharkhand 4 seats.

The last date for filing of nominations will be 23rd of April, while scrutiny will take place the next day. The last date for withdrawal of candidature will be 26th of April.

In Uttar Pradesh, senior BJP leader and Home Minister Rajnath Singh will file his nomination today. Our correspondent has the details:

"Rajnath Singh will file his nomination in Lucknow today afternoon after a brief show from party head office to collectorate. Many BJP leaders including Yogi Adityanath, Keshav Maurya, Dinesh Sharma, Kalraj Mishra and Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank along with party workers in large number are expected to be present in the road show. Meanwhile nominations for the six phase of general election will start today in which 14 seats of the state will go for poll. These seats are spread over central and eastern part of the state. Many high profile candidates will file their nomination in this phase including, Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav, senior BJP leader Menaka Gandhi and Rita Bahuguna Joshi. In an exclusive interview to Doordarshan News, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the NDA is fully committed to fulfilling the dreams and aspirations of people of the country.

"पांच साल मैने सामान्य मानविकी आवश्यकताओं की पूर्ति के लिए पूरी जान लगा दी। घर मिले, गैस मिले, बिजली मिले, बच्चों को शिक्षा मिले, आरोग्य की व्यवस्था और अगला पांच साल मेरा अकांक्षाओं की पूर्ति का है। अब मेरा ध्यान है, सामान्य हिन्दुस्तान के नागरिक की एसपिरेसंश क्या हैं अकांक्षा क्या हैं।" 

The Prime Minister asserted that NDA government launched Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme to provide an assured income support to the small and marginal farmers. He also said, India has emerged as a major global power in a multi-polar world scenario.

Addressing an election rally in Mahuva in Bhavnagar district of Gujarat, Congress President Rahul Gandhi said that if voted to power, the NYAY scheme will be implemented immediately.

"हमने आपको अब न्याय योजना दे दी है,72 हज़ार रूपये 20 प्रतिशत  गरीब लोगो के बैंक एकाउँट में सीधा साल के 72 हजार, पांच साल में तीन लाख साठ हजार रूपये ,ये हमारी गांरटी है। मैं आपको यह नही कहूंगा कि 2 करोड़ युवाओं को हर साल रोजगार दूंगा, मगर मैं आपको ये जरूर कहूंगा कि 22 लाख सरकारी नौकरियां हैं उनको मैं एक साल के अंदर भरकर दिलवा दूंगा।"

Speaking at a rally in Kodinar in Gir Somnath district of Gujarat, BJP president Amit Shah highlighted major achievements of the NDA government at the Centre. He said, the government gave constitutional status to OBC commission and provided 10 percent reservation to economically weaker sections among general category. Mr Shah said, the biggest achievement of the Modi government was making the country secure.

The Election Commission has barred senior BJP leader Maneka Gandhi from poll campaigning for 48 hours for violating model code of conduct in her speech during a rally at Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh. The ban will be effective from 10 AM today. In its order, the Commission strongly condemned her objectionable comments targeting people from a particular religion.

The Commission also banned Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan from election campaigning for 72 hours for his objectionable remarks against BJP candidate Jaya Prada. The ban will be effective from 10 this morning.

Yesterday, the Poll body barred BSP Chief Mayawati for 48 hours and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for 72 hours from campaigning for violating Model Code of Conduct. The ban came into effect from 6 this morning.

Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address four rallies in Odisha and Chhatisgarh. In Odisha, he will hold public meetings in Sambalpur and Bhubaneswar and a road show in Bhubaneswar.

 In Chhattisgarh, Prime Minister Modi will also address rallies in Raipur district of the state. More from our correspondent:-

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address two election rallies in Chhattisgarh today. The PM will first address a public meeting in Korba district headquarter and the next one in Bhatapara town of Balodabazar-Bhatapara district. Apart from the senior leaders of state unit of BJP, party candidates of various constituencies of Chhattisgarh will also be present at these rallies. Vikalp Shukla, AIR News, Raipur."

Congress President Rahul Gandhi will hold multiple rallies in Kerala today. Our correspondent has the detail:-

"Mr. Rahul Gandhi who reached Thiruvananthapuram yesterday is expected to address people at poll campaigns in Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Mavelikkara, Alappuzha and Thiruvananthapuram today. The Congress president  will attend campaign of N. K. Premachandran at Pathanapuram today morning and is scheduled to attend election campaign of Anto Antony at Pathanamthitta municipal stadium. Rahul will speak at an election campaign of Shanimol Usman at Alappuzha. In the evening Mr Rahul Gandhi will attend the UDF election campaign Thiruvananthapuram central stadium. Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Union Minister Smriti Irani will join BJP campaign in Gujarat today. Mr. Chauhan will address public meetings at Halol, Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad. He will also visit the Statue of Unity in Narmada district.

Union minister Smriti Irani will address public meetings at Patan, Veraval, Gondal and Rajkot. She will also visit Somnath temple in Gir Somnath district for darshan.

Madhya Pradesh election office will install GPS systems on more than 20,000 vehicles to be deployed for transporting Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and polling staff. State Chief Electoral Officer VL Kantha Rao told reporters in Bhopal yesterday that these vehicles are likely to be deployed for poll duty in the state, which will have four-phase polling for its 29 Lok Sabha seats.

Enforcement Directorate, ED has attached properties of former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala worth 3.68 crore rupees in a disproportionate assets case. The attached properties consist of a flat, a plot, a residential house and land in Delhi, Panchkula and Sirsa. The action has been taken under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. The ED's money laundering case is based on a CBI's FIR against Mr. Chautala and his family members for possessing alleged disproportionate assets.

Army chief General Bipin Rawat has said the army is planning to carry out a joint training and exercise with the Indian Coast Guard. He was speaking after commissioning the coast guard's offshore patrol vessel (OPV) Veera, the third in the series of the new-generation OPV in Visakhapatnam yesterday. General Rawat said, Veera will help the coast guard monitor maritime boundaries more effectively.

The 97-metre long and 15-metre wide Veera has a range of 5,000 nautical miles and can attain a sustained speed of upto 48.15 kilometre per hour.

National Capital Delhi and adjoining areas experienced light rains early morning today. Met department said, due to western disturbance, North India will experience rainfall and thundershowers today and tomorrow. Senior official of IMD Dr Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said, the western disturbance will cause heavy rainfall at isolated places over the Western Himalayan region mainly Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

"An acting western disturbance is likely to affect northwest India and adjoining areas of central and eastern India during 16th and 17th. On this influence there will be wide spread rainfall activity over Jammu and Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, West UP, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Marathwada, North Odisha and Jharkhand during this period. At some places there can be squarely winds speed reaching 42 to 60 kms per hour. Also isolated hailstrom activity is likely during this period. From 18th the situation will improve."
