External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj today said India has secured an unprecedented support from the international community for listing of Masood Azhar under the UN Sanctions Committee.

In a series of tweets, Mrs Swaraj said, this year the proposal was moved by USA, France and UK and supported by 14 of the 15 UN Security Council Members and also co-sponsored by Australia, Bangladesh, Italy and Japan-non members of the Security Council this year. The Minister said, the proposal has been mooted four times in the UN to list Azhar as a global terrorist. In 2009, India under the UPA Government was the lone proposer whereas India's proposal was co-sponsored by the US, France and UK, in 2016. Mrs Swaraj said, in 2017, USA, UK and France moved the proposal.

Earlier this week China had put technical hold on proscribing Azhar as global terrorist under the UN Sanctions regime.


India has welcomed the decision taken by France to sanction Jaish-e-Mohammed Chief Masood Azhar. In a tweet, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said, Azhar who is Pakistan-based and his outfit is a UN proscribed terrorist organisation responsible for the Pulwama terrorist attack.

Earlier, France has decided to freeze all assets of Pakistan based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed, JeM chief Masood Azhar, in application of the country's Monetary and Financial Code.

The French government's Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, said, France has always been and always will be by India's side in the fight against terrorism. It said, France has decided to sanction Masood Azhar at the national level by freezing his assets in application of the Monetary and Financial Code.

A joint statement issued by the French interior ministry, finance ministry and foreign ministry said that France would raise the issue with its European partners with a view to including Masood Azhar on the European Union list of persons, groups and entities involved in terrorist acts.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other world leaders today condemned, the mass killings in two Mosques at the Christchurch city of New Zealand, in which 49 persons were killed and 20 other injured. Expressing deep shock over the killings, Mr Modi stressed India’s strong condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and of all those who support such acts of violence. In a letter to New Zealand Prime Minister, Ms Jacinda Ardern, Mr Modi said that hatred and violence have no place in diverse and democratic societies.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison also condemned the incident and described the attacker as an 'extremist, right-wing, violent terrorist'.

US President Trump in a tweet termed it as a "horrible massacre" and offered US assistance to its ally. He said his warmest sympathy and best wishes goes out to the people of New Zealand.

UK Prime Minister Theresa May offering her deepest condolences, in a tweet said, her thoughts are with all of those affected by this sickening act of violence.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said she mourned with New Zealanders for their fellow citizens who were attacked and murdered out of racist hatred while peacefully praying in their mosques.

French President Emmanuel Macron called it an "odious attack" and said France stood "against any form of extremism".

Pope Francis assured all New Zealanders, and in particular the Muslim community his heartfelt solidarity.

New Zealand police said they have detained four people in connection with the deadly shootings and have neutralised a number of improvised explosive devices found.


India expressing shock over terror attack in New Zealand, today said, its High Commission is in touch with the local authorities to ascertain more details about the possibility of Indians being affected by shooting in two mosques in Christchurch. The High Commission has already started a helpline for providing the required assistance. The Help-lines are- 021803899 and 021850033. It has urged the Indian Community to contact the mission for any assistance.


President Ramnath Kovind today inaugurated the Festival of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Grambharti near Gandhinagar in Gujarat. He also presented the 10th Biennial National Grassroots Innovation Awards on this occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, President Kovind said the country needs to build an ecosystem for converting innovations into enterprises.

"NIF has created a huge database of ideas, innovations and traditional knowledge practices from all over the country. It has recognised over 800 grassroots innovators through awards and it has had hundred of innovations validated throughout our institutions."

Mr. Prakash Singh Raghuvanshi of Uttar Pradesh got life time achievement award for his innovations in new varieties of agriculture crops. The first prize in Veterinary, Herbal medication for coccidiosis received by Periyasami Ramasami of  Tamil Nadu.


A preliminary report has blamed the negligent conduct of structural audit for collapse of foot-over-bridge connecting Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus’s platform number one with BT Lane near Times of India building. Six people were killed and 31 injured the mishap yesterday.

"The preliminary report of the Chief Engineer (Vigilance) states that the structural audit of the bridge was not conducted in a responsible and fair manner. The report published this evening states, that the tragedy could have been avoided if the structural audit had been done diligently. In view of the major lapses observed, the report proposes suitable action against the auditing firm and the structural audit of all the bridges conducted by this firm should be done again. It also concludes that necessary action must also be initiated against concerned MCGM staff and the firm awarded the maintenance and repairs contract, who are prima facie flacking in their job.  Kunal Shinde, AIR News, Mumbai."


BJP and Apna Dal will jointly contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh. In a tweet, BJP President Amit Shah said, the Apna Dal will contest on two seats. Ms Anupriya Patel will contest form Mirzapur Parliamentary Constituency, who is also the sitting member from the same seat. He said, the decision on the second seat will be taken after holding talks between the leaders of the two parties.


Samajwadi Party has declared five more candidates in Uttar Pradesh for the upcoming general elections. The Party has decided candidates for Gonda, Barabanki, Kairana, Ghaziabad and Sambhal seats. Former State Minister Vinod Singh alias Pandit Singh will contest Gonda parliamentry seat while Ram Sagar Rawat will fight from Barabanki reserve seat. Siting MP from Kairana Tabassum Hasan will contest this time also on the party symbol, and former MP Shafikur Rehman Bark will fight from Sambhal constituency. Surendra kumar alias Munni Sharma is party candidate from Ghaziabad seat.

Till now Samajwadi Pary has announced 16 candidates for parliamentary elections in state.


DMK-led alliance in Tamil Nadu has announced the Lok Sabha seats where the coalition parties will contest the elections. DMK President MK Stalin, flanked by the alliance leaders, released the list this morning at his party headquarters Anna Arivalayam.

The DMK would contest all three seats in Chennai. It will also field its candidates in 17 other seats in the state, covering most of the northern parts of the state.

Congress would contest in ten seats including Kanyakumari, Sivaganga, the home constituency of ex-Finance Minister P Chidambaram and Puducherry.

Vaiko-led MDMK has been allocated Erode constituency, besides a Rajya Sabha seat when it gets vacant from the state.

CPI (M) will field its candidates in Madurai and Coimbatore. CPI will contest in Nagappattinam and Tiruppur.


NDA's coalition partner PMK in Tamil Nadu has released its election manifesto in Chennai today. The party founder Dr S Ramadoss released the document in presence of former Union Health Minister and party youth wing leader Dr Anbumani Ramadoss. In the manifesto, the party favours thirty three percent reservation for women in legislature bodies, sharing of GST revenue with local bodies and Bharat Ratna award for musician Ilayaraja.


The National People’s Party (NPP) today announced the name of former Union Minister, Agatha K Sangma as a common candidate of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA), who will be contesting for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls from Tura seat.

She will be contesting against the Congress heavyweight former Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma.


In Jammu and Kashmir, the representatives of all major political parties except the National Conference, held meetings with the Special Observers appointed by the Election Commission in Jammu today.

"The representatives of most of the national as well as regional political parties including Congress, PDP, BSP, JKNPP etc. Stressed that the Assembly elections should be held soon as possible to restore the popular government in Jammu and Kashmir. The BJP, however,  was of the view that conducive atmosphere is the pre-requisition for Assembly Elections while, the National Conference argued that  the party has already made its position clear on holding of General as well as Assembly Elections in the State .Yogesh Sharma, AIR News, Jammu."


India's trade deficit narrowed in the month of February this year to 9.6 billion dollars. According to data released by the Commerce Ministry today, the country's exports grew by 2.44 per cent year-on-year to 26.67 billion dollar while imports declined by 5.4 per cent to 36.26 billion dollars.


Union Minister Arun Jaitley today said India is the world’s most populous and largest democracy and soon it will be fifth largest economy in the world. He also said that after a decade, India is likely to be amongst the top three economies in terms of size alongwith United States and China.


India bagged five medals, including two gold, on the opening day of the Asian Youth Athletics Championships in Hong Kong today. Philip Maheswaran Thabitha grabbed the first gold for India by winning the boys' 110 metres hurdles in 12.86 seconds. Vipin Kumar added the second yellow metal for India in the boys' hammer throw with an effort of 69.63 metres.

India's first medal of the day came from Harshita Sherawat as she clinched a silver in the girls' hammer throw with an effort of 61.93 metres.


Swati Shingade of Pune, Maharashtra has bagged the first prize of DD Mahila Kisan Award for 2018-19. Prasar Bharati Chairman A Surya Prakash gave away the award to Ms Shingade at a grand finale event organised by DD Kisan Channel in New Delhi. As many as 110 women farmers participated in the award competition, out which five were selected for the grand finale.


Sensex at Bombay Stock Exchange surged 269 points to end at 38,024. Nifty at National Stock Exchange was also up 84 points to settle at 11,427. 

The rupee appreciated 26 paise to 69 rupees and 10 paise against the US dollar.
