Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated and laid foundation stones of several development projects in Haryana. 
Mr Modi was in Kurukshetra to participate in 'Swachh Shakti 2019', an event to recognise the leadership role played by rural women in the Swachh Bharat Mission to achieve a clean and open defecation free country by October 2nd this year. The event was attended by woman Sarpanch and women associated with the 'Swachhta' campaign from across the country. Mr Modi distributed the 'Swachh Shakti 2019' awards on the occasion.
He inaugurated the 2,035-crore rupees National Cancer Institute, in Jhajjar district through video conferencing. The 700-bed hospital will have facilities like surgical oncology, radiation oncology and nuclear medicine.
The Prime Minister also inaugurated the ESIC Medical College and Hospital in  Faridabad which has 510 beds. He laid foundation stone of National Institute of Ayurveda in Panchkula.
The foundation stone of Sri Krishna Ayush University, Kurukshetra was also laid by the Prime Minister, along with foundation stone of 'Battles of Panipat Museum'. He also laid foundation stone of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay University of Health Sciences in Karnal.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Modi said, the projects launched today will better the lives of people living in the state.

"झज्जर का नेशनल कैंसर इंस्टीट्यूट हो, कुरूक्षेत्र में आयुष यूनिवर्सिटी हो, करनाल में हेल् साइंस यूनिवर्सिटी हो, पंचकूला में नेशनल इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ आयुर्वेद हो, फरीदाबाद में ईएसआईसी मेडिकल कॉलेज और अस्पताल हो ये तमाम प्रोजेक् हरियाणावासियों के जीवन को स्वस् और सुगम बनाने वाले हैं। साथ ही यहां के युवाओं को रोजगार के नए अवसर भी मिलने वाले हैं। "

The Prime Minister said, Kurukshetra is a land of learning and spirituality. He said, it is the land of Kurukshetra, where thousands of years ago, Lord Krishna began a campaign to clean up immorality.

"कुरूक्षेत्र की वो धरती है हजारों साल पहले इसी धरती पर स्वच्छता का अभियान हुआ था। श्रीकृष् के नेतृत् में हुआ था और अनैतिकता को साफ करने का काम हुआ था। आज युग बदला है और हम रोजमर्रा की जिंदगी में सफाई के लिए लड़ाई लड़ रहे हैं। देशभर से आप सभी का कुरूक्षेत्र की इस प्ररेणा स्थल पर जुटना स्वच् भारत के संकल् को नए भारत के संकल् को और मजबूत कर रहा है।"

Mr Modi appreciated Haryana government for its achievements in cleanliness.
Citing schemes like One Rank, One Pension and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Mr Modi said the targets that were launched from Haryana's soil have always been achieved. 
The Prime Minister highlighted that over 11 lakh people benefited from Ayushman Bharat and that his government is working to make the life of the farmer, the poor and middle class easier.
He said that history of people cannot be written by those disconnected from the historic roots. He accused Congress of promoting history that revolves around only one family.

"इतिहास वो ही बना सकते हैं जो इतिहास की जड़ों से रसकस लेकर के फलते-फूलते हैं। कुछ लोगों ने यही सोचा कि हिन्दुस्तान का इतिहास 1947 से शुरू होता है और एक ही परिवार से शुरू होता है और उसी ने देश को इतिहास की जड़ों से काटने का पाप किया।"

The Prime Minister welcomed the Nigerian guests who are on a study tour to learn how the Swachh Bharat Mission had such a dramatic success so quickly and how it can be replicated in Nigeria.


The Lok Sabha today passed Finance Bill, 2019 by a voice vote. Replying to the discussion on the bill, Finance Minister Piyush Goyal appealed to the States to furnish data about farmers so that the income support under the PM-Kisan scheme is credited to their accounts at the earliest. He asserted that all the proposals in the bill are aimed at benefiting the middle classes and honest taxpayers. The Finance Minister informed the House that if tax payers invest in savings and medi-claim or have availed education loans, they can get tax exemption on income up to 9.5 lakh rupees.

"The pressing needs to give more benefits to those who are in the  lower income bracket, particularly those who have taxable income up to 5 lakhs, the government in the interim budget decided that we should atleast give an additional rebate from 2.5 thousand rupees to 12.5 thosusand rupees for lower middle class section or those sections which pay income tax on income which are five lakh, six-seven-eight lakhs, but after their deduction and exemption, the taxable income come to about five lakhs."

Mr Goyal said that the government is committed to protecting the interests of small businesses under the GST regime. The Finance Minister informed the House that inflation has dropped to 2.05 per cent in January as against 2.19 in December last year. He said this shows the government’s track record in keeping inflation under absolute control.
Earlier, initiating the discussion on the bill, Finance Minister said, the government is encouraging people belonging to lower and middle income groups to be the owners of houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. He said, the objective is to ensure that every citizen has his own home before the country celebrates its 75th Independence Day.
Participating in the discussion, K C Venugopal of the Congress said that the NDA tenure is marked by growing unemployment, poverty and a rise in farm distress.
TMC MP Saugata Roy said the government was announcing sops in the budget to garner votes. TRS member Dr. Boora Narsaiah Goud while raising the issue of Telangana supported the bill.


The Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day today due to continued uproar by Samajwadi Party over former UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav allegedly being stopped at Lucknow airport on his way to Prayagraj. The issue led to repeated disruptions. Samajwadi party leader Prof. Ram Gopal Yadav again raised the issue in the post lunch session, forcing a brief adjournment of the House till 2:36 PM. After the House re-assembled, Samajwadi Party members again rushed into the well, raising slogans. As noisy scenes continued, the House was adjourned for the day.
Tomorrow is the last day of the Budget Session which commenced on the 31st of last month.


Home Minister Rajnath Singh has said that various provisions of the Citizenship (Amedment) Bill 2019 have been clarified to political leaders from North Eastern states including some chief ministers. In a written statement in the Lok Sabha today, Mr Singh said, the Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha in the Winter Session of Parliament. Mr Singh said, the central government has apprised the representatives of the North Eastern states of the steps that have been taken to  preserve the cultural, social and linguistic identity and heritage of people of the North East.


The Home Minister today said that the Congress is misleading the people by raking up the Rafale issue time and again. Making an intervention in the Lok Sabha during the Zero Hour, Mr Singh said, it has been discussed in detail in the Lok Sabha and the Supreme Court has also put the matter to rest.

"राफेल के मुद्दे पर इस संसद में चर्चा हो चुकी है। सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने भी इस संबंध में अपना फैसला दे दिया है। लेकिन ये नेता प्रतिपक्ष अपनी तरफ से यह कोशिश कर रहे हैं। बार-बार असत् को बोलकर उसे सत् साबित करने की कोशिश है जनता इसके द्वारा गुमराह करने की कोशिश की जा रही है। हेल्दी डेमोक्रेसी में मैं समझता हूं कि यदि कोई पोल्टिक् करना चाहता है तो जनता की आंख में धूल झोंककर उसे पोल्टिक् नहीं करनी चाहिए।"
Earlier, Leader of the Congress party in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge reiterated the demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe into the deal.


Union Minister Arun Jaitley has accused the Congress party of peddling lies on the Rafale deal to save a sinking dynasty. In a facebook post today, Mr Jaitley said, in relation to the Rafale deal where thousands of crores of public money has been saved, a new falsehood is manufactured on a daily basis. The minister said, the latest is in relation to the present CAG and his participation in the decision making process of Rafale. Mr Jaitley rejected allegations of conflict of interest of CAG Rajiv Mehrishi saying that he never dealt with any file or paper relating to the fighter jet deal during his tenure in the Finance Ministry.


In Delhi, seventeen people including a child lost their lives in a fire that broke out early this morning at a hotel located in Karol Bagh. Delhi fire services said, two persons have been seriously injured in the incident.
The Delhi Police has registered an FIR against the hotel owner. Talking to reporters, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central District, M S Randhawa said, uptill now 15 bodies have been identified. He said, the investigation is on and prima facie suggests willful negligence on the part of hotel management.
President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have condoled the loss of lives and expressed hope that the injured will soon recover.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced an ex-gratia of 5 lakh rupees each to the kin of the deceased.


President Ram Nath Kovind today unveiled a life size portrait of former Prime Minister  Atal Bihari Vajpayee at the Central Hall of Parliament. Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad, Union Ministers, and leaders of various parties were present during the event.


In Cricket, Indian batswomen Jemimah Rodrigues and Smriti Mandhana today jumped four places to be second and sixth in the ICC T20 rankings despite their team's 0-3 loss in New Zealand. Rodrigues's 132 runs in the three-match series against New Zealand have lifted her to second position.
