Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 'Vibrant Gujarat Global Trade Show' at Helipad ground in Gandhinagar today. Spread over 2 lakh square meter area, this is the country’s largest exhibition ever. Here is a report:
"Global Trade Show- to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a part of Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2019. Spread over 2 lacs square meter area, this largest ever 6 day exhibition will witness Buyer Seller Meets, Reverse Buyer Seller Meets and vendor development programmes. This Exhibition showcases the business platforms of over 25 sectors to provide a platform for multi-sector B2B engagements. Nearly 1.5 million visitors and approximately 3000 International Delegates from over 100 countries are expected at the Exhibition. Prime Minister will also inaugurate state of art SVP institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Ahmedabad built at the cost of Rs.750 crore. The State run hospital will also have air ambulance facility along with 1500 beds, 139 ICU beds, 39 Operation theaters and the largest emergency and trauma section. Tomorrow Mr. Modi will inaugurate the 9th edition of Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors Summit 2019. The main theme of this edition of the Summit  will be “Youth Connect 2019: Shaping A New India - The Story of Billion Dreams”. He will also hold a meeting with CEOs of major global funds at the Summit venue. Fifteen countries including Australia, Canada, France and Japan have agreed to be “partner countries” this year. Mr Modi will also hold meetings with international leaders on the same day and would participate in a round table meeting. Later, Prime Minister will leave Ahmedabad for Surat to dedicate several other projects at Hazira and the Union Territory of Silvassa.

President Ram Nath Kovind today inaugurated the two-day Gandhian Resurgence Summit on the occasion of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary year. The Summit is being organised by the Parmarath Niketan, the Harijan Sevak Sangh and the Global Interfaith WASH Alliance.
"ये सुखद संयोग है कि कुंभ के आयोजन के साथ हम महात्‍मा गांधी जी की 150वीं जयंती भी सेलिब्रेट कर रहे हैं। बापू के इस 150वीं जयंती वर्ष के कार्यक्रम में कुंभ परिसर में भी आयोजित करने के लिए परिवार, परमार्थ निकेतन, अर्जन सेवक संघ, ग्‍लोबल इंटर फेथ वार्सालांयस एवं गंगा एक्‍शन परिवार के सभी पदाधिकारियों और कार्यकर्ताओं को मैं बधाई देता हूं और सचमुच में मैं इसको देख रहा था कि ये चार संस्‍थाओं ने मिलकर के इस कार्यक्रम को आयोजित किया और कुंभ की भी जो कल्‍पना जो है वो एक मिलन की है।"
Earlier today the President performed a puja at Sangam in Prayagraj Kumbh Mela. Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also attended the function.

NIA is conducting searches in Amroha, Hapur, Meerut and Bulandshahar in Uttar Pradesh today and also at Ludhiana in Punjab in connection with the ISIS inspired module case. Last month the NIA had carried out searches in Delhi, Amroha, Lucknow, Meerut, Hapur and other places in connection with its probe into the new Islamic State module of Harkat-ul-Harb-e-Islam. It also arrested 10 people including the group head Mufti Mohammad Suhail as they were allegedly planning terror attacks targeting some political personalities, security establishments and crowded places in Delhi and the national capital region.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today criticized Congress for questioning the decision of  the committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to transfer the CBI Director Alok Verma. In a Facebook post, Mr. Jaitley said the only question before the committee was whether there is any material available as a ground to transfer Mr.Verma. He said, Prima facie, the CVC report did constitute adequate and relevant material and said the committee could not have ignored it.
The Minister asserted that it is the duty of the government to ensure the cleaning-up of the investigative agencies.

Information and Broadcasting Secretary Amit Khare today said, there has been a tremendous growth in the broadcasting sector. He was addressing the International Conference and Exhibition on Terrestrial and Satellite Broadcasting organised by Broadcast Engineering Society in New Delhi.  Mr Khare said,  the Ministry is working on bringing a national policy on broadcasting. The Secretary said, broadcasting is a growth sector and technology advancement is bringing new opportunities as well as challenges. He said, because of changing technology and new revolutions, more than a billion people have access to radio in the country. Mr Khare said, the broadcasting sector has witnessed a double digit growth and the reach of national channels have increased substantially.
"There has been a tremendous growth in the Broadcast sector, and that growth in continuing hundred million hour holds have excess to television and we are committed to provide further excess to another 100 million house hold. The type of growth is expected is 5 to 7 years, it is 8 growth sector and also due technology is bringing newer challenges and also new opportunities. I thing an important role for the ministry and I am sure BES will a partners is this, in the new broadcast policy there we have been thinking of.
Speaking on the occasion, TRAI chairman R S Sharma said, huge technological development is taking place in the broadcasting sector. He said, the consumers today have opportunity of choosing the content and the channel of their own choice. 
" The broadcasting media is a powerful purveyor of ideas and values and plays a pivotal role in note only in providing entertainment and also disseminating information nurturing and cultivating diverse opinions and specially is a vibrant democracy  like ours and educating and empowering the people which are a must in a democratic society. "
Our correspondent reports that this year the theme for the BES Expo is Next-Gen Broadcasting in the IT world. About three hundred broadcast, equipment manufacturers companies and broadcast professionals are participating in the expo.

The election commission team led by Chief Election Commissioner(CEC) Sunil Arora reached Patna today for a two-day visit  to review the preparedness for Lok Sabha polls this year.
The 11 member election commission team held discussions with Bihar Chief electoral officer and nodal officer of state police and Central forces in the state. The team instructed concerned officers to take effective steps to ensure free and fair polls.

The National Green Tribunal, NGT today slammed German auto major Volkswagen for not depositing Rs 100 crore in accordance with its November 16, 2018 order and directed it to submit the amount within 24 hours.
A bench headed by NGT chairperson Adarsh Kumar Goel took strong exception to the non-compliance of its order by the automobile giant and asked it to give an undertaking that it will submit the amount by 5 PM tomorrow.
On November 16 last year, the tribunal had said that the use of 'cheat device' by Volkswagen in diesel cars in India leads to inference of environmental damage and had asked the German auto major to deposit an interim amount of Rs 100 crore with the Central Pollution Control Board.

The Supreme Court today set aside some provisions of a law imposing restrictions on the licensing and functioning of dance bars in Maharashtra. A bench headed by Justice A K Sikri quashed certain provisions of the 2016 Maharashtra law like the mandatory installation of CCTVs and a partition between bar rooms and the dance floor.
The court  allowed payment of tips to performers in Maharashtra dance bars but made it clear that showering of currency notes cannot be allowed. The apex court also quashed provision mandating that dance bars should be 1 km away from religious places and educational institutions. It also upheld the condition fixing the timing of dance bars from 6 pm to 11.30 pm.

The national space agency ISRO has scheduled its first launch of this year on the 24th of this month. The PSLV rocket with serial number C-44 will lift off on the day from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota. It will carry onboard a student satellite called Kalamsat and an imaging satellite known as Microsat-R.

In Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan troops violated ceasefire yet again in Gulpur sector of Poonch district in the wee hours today. According to defence sources Pakistan Army started unprovoked firing and targeted civilian areas and forward Indian posts. The firing by Pak troops started at around 3.20 in the early morning. Alert Indian troops guarding the border retaliated and gave a befitting reply to Pakistan. The exchange of fire continued for over half an hour. No loss of life or injury was reported from Indian side.

In Meghalaya, Indian Navy Divers detected the body of a miner trapped in a rat-hole mine in East Jaintia Hills. 
In a tweet, the Indian Navy said the body was detected using Underwater ROV at a depth of approximately 160 feet and 210 feet inside the mine. 15 miners were trapped on December 13 last year when water from Lytein River flooded a network of tunnels in the 370-foot-deep coal mine in Lumthari village of East Jaintia Hills. Rescue operations by the Indian Navy, NDRF and Odisha Fire Services officials continue to recover the other miners.

BJP President Amit Shah, who has been admitted to the AIIMS in New Delhi for swine flu treatment, is doing well. In a tweet, party said, after a check up this morning, the doctors have opined that  Mr. Shah is recovering well and will soon be discharged. The BJP Chief was admitted last night  following complaints of chest congestion and breathing issues.

US Vice President Mike Pence has said North Korea is yet to take concrete steps to dismantle its nuclear weapons that threaten America and other countries in the region. He also said that Russia seeks to overturn the international order that the US has upheld for more than half a century. 
Mr Pence was addressing the global chief of mission conference yesterday. His statement gains significance as the White House is preparing for another summit between President Donald Trump and the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

Sensex and Nifty today witnessed marginal losses in afternoon trade after logging modest gains in last two sessions. Both indices slipped 0.1 percent amid mixed global stocks.
The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange fell 57 points to trade at 36,264. The Nifty at National Stock Exchange was also down 17 points to 10,873 a short while ago.

In Hockey a Under 17 semifinals Jharkhand defeated Odisha Girls by 4 - 2 and Harayana defeated Punjab 4-0.
