In Assam, Republic day is being celebrated with much enthusiasm. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has unfurled the tricolor at Khanapara in Guwahati. In his speech, the Chief Minister said that violence will not solve any problem. Referring to the massacre of 23rd of last month, Gogoi said that the government is committed to take strict action against the terrorists. He also appealed all militant groups to shun violence.

AIR Correspondent reports that the Republic Day is being celebrated across the state. Security has been beefed in sensitive places to avoid any untoward incident.


Maharashtra joined the nation in celebrating Republic Day with patriotic fervor and enthusiasm. State Governor C Vidyasagar Rao unfurled the national flag at Shivaji Park in Mumbai. In his Republic Day message, Governor reiterated government’s cAommitment for water conservation and drought proof state. Speaking about employment for youth, he said that the State Government has set an ambitious target of equipping 4.5 crore youth with employable skills under the National Skill Development Mission by the year 2022.The main attraction of the function was a huge military parade in which the armed forces participated.

The flag hoisting ceremony also took place at all district headquarters of the state.

Madhya Pradesh

In Madhya Pradesh, the 66th Republic Day is being celebrated with national fervor, pomp and gaiety. AIR Bhopal correspondent reports that the main function was organized in capital Bhopal this morning.

Governor Ramnaresh Yadav hoisted the tricolor and inspected the parade in capital Bhopal’s Motilal Nehru Stadium. Addressing the people on this occasion, he said that the state has launched Make in Madhya Pradesh campaign to give impetus to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for Make in India. He expressed satisfaction on the fact that the people are participating actively in the Swatchh Bharat Abhiyan.

Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan unfurled the tricolor in Agar Malwa district headquarters. A Bharat Parv programme, based on songs, dances and poetry, will be organized across the state this evening to remember the contribution of martyrs in the independence of the country. In Bhopal a five day cultural programme Lonrang will begin.

Andhra Pradesh

In Andhra Pradesh the 66th Republic Day was celebrated today in Vijayawada with gaiety and patriotic fervour. The main parade was held at the Indira Gandhi Stadium. For the first Republic Day celebration in the new state, Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan unfurled the national flag and reviewed a colourful parade.

Governor Narasimhan exuded confidence that the state would recover the lost ground and move on a trajectory of growth and development.

Earlier, the governor took salute from contingents of CRPF, Police, NCC, Bharat Scouts and Guides.

Governor Narasimhan paid tributes to Pingali Venkaiah, designer of the national flag and hailing from the region on this occasion.


Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today appealed to all to collectively work to wean out social evils from the society and work towards attaining secular, social, democratic and federal India in the real sense.

Remembering the architect of the Indian constitution, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar while addressing the 66th Repiublic Day function at Mohali, Mr. Badal said the country has still not achieved socialism as equal opportunities are yet not available for all.

Lauding the role of Punjabis for laying down their lives in maximum numbers during the country’s struggle for independence, Mr. Badal said Punjab is progressing in every field. However, he showed concern over menace of drugs in the state and asked everyone to be a part of state’s war against drugs.

Yesterday, Indian Army’s Golden Arrow Division hoisted the largest monumental National Flag in Ferozepur cantonment in Punjab to mark the occasion.


In Kerala, patriotism and gaiety marked the Republic Day celebrations in the state. The state minister of Panchayats and Social Justice, Dr M K Muneer unfurled the National Flag and took salute at an impressive function held at the Vikram Maidan in Calicut this morning. 23 platoons belonging to the Armed Police, Excise, Forest, NCC and the Student Police Corps took part in the parade.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Muneer said the state government will sternly deal with terrorism, whatever be its form. The Minister said Non-Resident Keralities will be able to exercise their franchise either by e-voting or by proxy-voting in the forthcoming local body polls, to be held in October later this year.

Kerala Governor Justice P Sathasivam has said NDA Government at the Centre has upheld the vision of a transformed India. He was delivering the Republic Day message, after unfurling the national tricolour at the Central Stadium in the capital Thiruvananthapuram today.

He said initiatives such as Swachh Bharat Mission, Jan Dhan Yojana, Make in India and Digital India are far-sighted and result-oriented. He said the Indian Space Research Organisation had a glorious year with the historic launch of Mangalyaan into Mars Orbit on its maiden attempt. Ministers unfurled the national tricolour at district headquarters and reviewed parade.


Jharkhand is celebrating 66th Republic Day with much enthusiasm. The main public function was organized at Morhabadi ground of capital Ranchi, where state Governor Sayyed Ahmed hoisted the national flag and took salute of the march past by contingents of police, armed forces and NCC. Chief Minister Raghuwar Das hoisted national flag at Dumka. He also honored 15 freedom fighters.

Arunachal Pradesh

In Arunachal Pradesh, Governor Nirbhay Sharma unfurled the tri-colour during a colourful Republic Day celebration held at Indira Gandhi Park in Itanagar today. The Governor also inspected the ceremonial parade. Speaking on the occasion, he called upon the people to fulfill their moral responsibility towards next generation by guiding and helping them in realizing their full potential.


Gujarat is celebrating 66th Republic Day with traditional fervor and patriotism. State level function was held at Khambhailia town- headquarter of newly created Devbhoomi Dwarka district, where Governor Mr.O. P. Kohli has unfurled the national tricolor. AIR Ahmedabad correspondent reports that development projects worth of 100 crore rupees have been launched in Devbhoomi Dwarka, the newly created district.

Small Khambhalia town - on the land of lord Krishna- in newly created district Devbhoomi Dwarka experienced the flavors of development while witnessing the state level Republic Day parade today. Main attraction of the parade and cultural programs is the theme of Beti Bachao- Beti Padhao- Save Girls- Educate Girls. A large student rally was organised from the Statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Ahmedabad- to spread the message of clean India Campaign. Republic Day parade was also held at Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad and other cities and towns of the state. Enthusiasm of Republic Day celebration is clearly visible on the face of young generation particularly school children waiving tricolors and balloons in their hands.


Along with the rest of the country Meghlaya is celebrating Republic Day with pomp and gaiety. Meghalaya Deputy Chief MInister R C Laloo has unfurled the national flag in polo ground of Shillong amidst a fly past by Indian Air Force. A host of programmes including tableau presentation and cultural programmes have been lined up in the function. Stringent security measures have been put into place by the police throughout the city in view of celebrations.


In Bihar, Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, unfurled tri-colour at the historical Gandhi Maidan in Patna. Describing achievements of his government, Mr. Manjhi said five villages in each 534 blocks of the states would be developed as ideal villages under Mukhya Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana. He said 24 hours electric services would be available to farmers of the state.


The 66th Republic Day celebrations in Karnataka were marked by patriotic fervor and gaiety. In the celebrations held in Bengaluru, Governor Waju Bhai Wala recalled progress achieved by the state and congratulated the Central Government for the exemplary work done to promote world peace through its dynamic foreign policy. He said Swach Bharath Abhiyan, Jan Dhan, Beti Bachao are programmes that will create a new history in the country’s development. He noted that Mobile one project launched in Karnataka has accomplished a rare feat. He also praised the state government for bringing down infant mortality rate and reducing malnutrition among children. The Governor’s speech was followed by March past by armed forces and cultural programmes by Children.

Jammu and Kashmir

In Jammu and Kashmir the main function of Republic Day celebrations was held in the winter capital city of Jammu today. The function was organised at M.A. Stadium where the State Governor N.N.Vohra hoisted the Tricolour and took salute of the march-past.

Speaking on the occasion the Governor expressed concern over the repeated incidences of ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the International Border and Line of Control in the State. Former Chief Ministers of the State Omar Abdullah and Mufti Mohammed Sayeed were also present on the occasion. In Kashmir valley the main function of Republic Day celebrations held at Bakhsi Stadium of Srinagar where Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Rohit Kansal hoisted the Tricolour. Elaborate security arrangements have been made throughout the State to check any untoward incidence on the day.

In Jammu and Kashmir the 66th Republic Day was today celebrated throughout the Kashmir valley amidst unprecedented security arrangements. The main Republic Day function was held at Bakshi stadium, where Kashmir Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir unfurled the National Flag and took salute at the march past.

Contingents from different paramilitary forces, Jammu and Kashmir police, Fire service, Home Guards and students of different schools participated in the march past which was followed by cultural programme . To avoid any untoward incident, sharp shooters had been deployed on all high rise buildings in the city, particularly around the Bakshi stadium. Reports of Rupublic Day celebrations were also received from other districts, major towns and tehsil headquarters in the Kashmir valley and Ladakh region. Meanwhile, for the first time in a decade, mobile phone and mobile Internet services were not disrupted in Kashmir Valley as part of the security drill for Republic Day celebrations.

The 66th Republic Day celebrated in different parts of border district of Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir at both civilian and defense areas with great jubilant and enthusiasm. Main function of the Republic Day was held at the Polo ground where the Chief Executive Councilor of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh Mr Rigzin Spalbar hoisted the national tri color flag and salute the impressive march past of Jammu and Kashmir police, para- military forces and school children. Colorful cultural and patriotic program by the school children was presented to mark the occasion.

West Bengal

Republic Day is also being celebrated all over West Bengal in befitting manner. On this day a colourful parade was organised at the Red Road in Kolkata where contingents of Army, Navy and Air Force took part, besides there were police and para-military forces and also school children. The Governor Mr. Kesrinath Tripathy took the Guard of Honour. The ceremony was witnessed by the Chief Minister, Ms. Mamta Banerjee, her Cabinet colleague and members of the diplomatic corps. AIR correspondent reports that opposition Left Front formed human chains at different parts of the state for 15 minutes protesting the Centre's decision to invite US President Barak Obama as the chief guest of the Republic Day celebration.

Uttar Pradesh

The state of Uttar Pradesh is immersed in celebrations of 66th Republic Day festivities. The main programme was held in Lucknow where Governor Ram Naik took the salute of marching out contingents of Army and Paramilitary forces. The colourful tableaus based on themes ranging from 'Women Empowerment','Youth Power​'​,​ '​Save the Environment​'​, ​'​Solar Energy​'​, ​'​Rural Development​'​, ​'​Heritage of Lucknow​'​ and ​'​On line Voters' Registration'​ to Jalianwala Bagh' attracted the huge applause of spectators.

The chief minister Akhilesh Yadav was also present on the occasion. The news of colourful celebration of the Republic Day is pouring in from various districts of the state.


In Chhattisgarh Governor Balramji Das Tandon unfurled the national flag and took the salute at the Republic Day parade held in state capital Raipur. Chief Minister Raman Singh hoisted the tri-colour at Maoist affected Bastar divisional headquarter Jagdalpur. The Republic Day was celebrated across the state with gaiety and enthusiasm despite a Maoist’s call for boycott.

Amid Maoist call for boycott tight security arrangements have been made in the Naxal affected regions of Chhattisgarh in view of the Republic day celebrations. Stiff security arrangements had been put in place in the state, particularly in Bastar region to avoid any disturbances by the rebels during Republic day celebrations. Naxals had been putting up banners and dropping pamphlets in several areas of Bastar from the past one week calling for a nationwide bandh on Republic day

Armed jawans have been deployed at all the important government establishments. Besides, patrolling had been intensified in the interior areas and inter-state borders to check suspicious movement. No major untoward incident has been reported so far.


Goa celebrated the Republic Day with a lot of enthusiasm. The Main function was held at the traditional Campal Grounds in the capital city of Panaji in the morning. The army, navy, fire brigade, Home guard and children took part in the parade. State Chief Minister Mr. Laxmikant Parsekar, Leader of the opposition Mr Pratapsingh Rane ,PWD Minister Mr Sudin Dhavlikar, attended the function. Governor of Goa Mrudula Sinha unfurled the Nation flag and inspected the parade and took the salute.


In Odisha, the 66th Republic Day was celebrated across the state today with gaiety and enthusiasm. Governor Dr SC Jamir took the salute at the state-level Republic Day parade held at Mahatma Gandhi Marg in state capital Bhubaneswar. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik hoisted the tri-colour at Barabati Stadium at Cuttack. After taking salute at an impressive parade, Naveen Patnaik highlighted the achievements of his government and reaffirmed his commitment to building a prosperous state.

Despite Intelligence Bureau alerted four states, including Odisha, on possible terror strikes and the Maoists put up posters and banners at a few places in the state’s southern districts asking people to boycott the celebrations, there was no reports of any untoward incidents from any part of the state.

Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu celebrated the 66th Republic day with fervour and fanfare in all the 32 districts. In the State capital Chennai, the State Governor Dr.K.Rosaiah hoisted the National flag at Kamarajar Salai this morning. Prior to the event he laid wreath at the War memorial alongwith Lt.General Jagbir Singh,General officer commanding Andhra,Tamilnadu,Karnataka and Kerala Area also paid

homage to the Martyrs. Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam distributed the Anna Medals for bravery and awarded achievers in various fields.


Nagaland Governor P. B. Acharya today stressed on a peaceful atmosphere in the state for the progress of the society and to bring out an amicable settlement of the Naga political problem of the state.

Unfurling the national tricolour on the occasion of 66th Republic Day at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat Plaza in Kohima this morning, the Governor said that peace is a pre-requisite for progress of society and to bring about a lasting peace in the state, the ongoing peace talks between the Government of India and the Naga underground factions have to be brought to an amicable settlement.

The Governor appealed to the people of Nagaland to commit to meet challenges with renewal energy and dedication and to work towards realizing the vision for a better future.
