Vande Bharat Mission: About 19,604 passengers brought to Mumbai from different countries so far

As many as 19,604 passengers have been brought to Mumbai in 125 flights from different countries so far as part of the Centre's 'Vande Bharat Mission'. Some of the countries from where these passengers were flown into India include Britain, Singapore, Japan, Philippines, the USA, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Kuwait, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, Oman, South Africa, Indonesia, the Netherlands, Sri Lanka, Mynanmar, Tanzania, Spain, Ireland, Qatar, Kazakhstan, Mauritius and Brazi among others.
 
The Maharashtra Chief Minister's Office (CMO) statement said that that in addition to this, more than 45 flights are expected to land in Mumbai by July 1. Under the Vande Bharat programme undertaken to bring back Indians stranded in other countries, so far, 19,604 passengers have landed in Mumbai. Till now, 125 flights have flown the passengers, who are residents of Maharashtra and other parts of the country.
 
According to Maharashtra Government data, of the total number of passengers, 13,899 are from Maharashtra and 7,218 of them hail from Mumbai. In view of Covid-19 outbreak, passengers from Mumbai were admitted to institutional quarantine facilities set up in different hotels by the state government. While others were sent to their respective districts for getting quarantined. On the other hand, passengers from other states were quarantined in Mumbai till they get travel passes from their home states.
 
Meanwhile, post the resumption of domestic commercial passenger flight operations from May 25, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has catered to a total of 2,01,258 passengers till date.The airport was initially allowed a total of 50 flights only, 25 departures and arrivals each per day by the Maharashtra government but it was later doubled to 100 flights per day.
