In the afternoon, the Vice President will formally inaugurate the 173rd edition of five-day Thyagaraja Aradhana Music Festival on the banks of the Kaveri in Thiruvaiyaru, another confluence of five rivers, in the Thanjavoor district. The music festival is famous for the devotional rendering of innumerable songs composed by Saint Thyagaraja by well known and little known artists.

The most important event in the festival, the group-singing of the five Ghana Raga compositions of Saint Thyagaraja, known as the Pancha Rathna Keertanas - the five jewels of Thyagaraja  compositions. This is usually held on the Pushya Bahula Panchami day, commemorating the passing away of Saint Thyagaraja on, 6th January 1847, at the age of 79. This year the Panchami falls on 15th of January. More than 1,000 musicians are expected to participate in the group singing of the Pancha Rathna Kritis.
