Director General of All India Radio, F. Sheheryar today said the unique selling proposition of the national broadcaster is its NEWS. After his day long official visit to AIR Mumbai, Mr. Sheheryar said that people continue to trust AIR’s News as most credible because AIR reports news and events as they happen, adding that manufacturing of news is simply not allowed. He said that AIR’s News is the most pristine, be it election, peace, war or a disaster.

Proud of AIR’s rich heritage, Mr. Sheheryar said that he was happy to note that many universities across India are currently encouraging students to conduct research and write thesis on the credibility of AIR News.
Mr. Sheheryar further informed that the national broadcaster’s recent offer to private FM radio stations to carry its English and Hindi news bulletins in an unadulterated form has evoked good response.

Talking about the classical music program titled ‘Ras Rang Barse’ organised on the occasion of Holi, Mr. Sheheryar said the program is extremely special as it is a complete in-house production. He said the programme reminds him of a period when some of the best talents like Ismat Chugtai, Manto, Pandit Ravi Shankar and Rajendra Bedi adorned the list of artists that served All India Radio. He said the treasure trove that still remains on AIR’s roll ensures that AIR occupies a special position among listeners and has not fallen into the trap where content is dictated by the markets.

The Programme, ‘Ras Rang Barse’ is currently enthralling audiences at AIR auditorium in Mumbai. Vocalists Pandit Chandrashekhar Vaze and Mrs. Pushpa Singh are accompanying AIR artists in this musical evening. While Mr. Sheheryar is the Chief Guest, Additional Director General and station Head of AIR Mumbai, Neeraj Agrawal, Deputy Director General Sudhir Sodhia and many other officers are present for the event.
