Two elderly passengers from coronavirus-hit cruise ship in Japan die

In Japan, about 500 passengers began disembarking the vessel Diamond Princess today while another 100 people were to leave for chartered flights home. A Health Ministry official said that an initial batch of passengers who had tested negative and shown no symptoms left the vessel yesterday, following a 14-day quarantine period.

Two Japanese passengers who contracted the Novel Corona virus on board the Diamond Princess quarantined in Japan have died. Both were in their 80s with underlying health conditions. They were being treated in hospitals after being taken off the cruise ship last week. They were being treated in hospitals after being taken off the Diamond Princess last week.

The victims have not been publicly named. At least 621 people on the ship tested positive for the virus, named Covid-19, the biggest cluster outside China.

Meanwhile, some of the passengers with no infection began leaving the ship yesterday after the end of a two-week quarantine period that failed to stop the spread of the virus among passengers and crew.
