Telangana witness incident-free polling but relatively low turnout of voters

ANI
In Telangana, the first general elections witnessed incident-free polling but relatively low turnout of voters. The polling recorded at about 61 per cent.

Though the final figure of voter turnout is yet to come, State Chief Electoral Officer Dr Rajat Kumar said it will be over 60 per cent. AIR correspondent reports that voters of Telangana have not shown much enthusiasm to come to polling stations and cast their vote to take part in the first Lok Sabha elections after the state formation. Scorching heat, serial elections as Assembly election held in December last year followed by Panchat Raj and MLC elections, and indifference due to political defections contributed to increase voter apathy.

Over 2000 Villagers of Teelair of Narayanpet district did not participate in voting as the village is grieving over the death of 10 women labourers in a land slip a day before.

Voters of Left wing affected areas in 13 Assembly segments also turned out well despite violence reported a day before in neighbouring area Danthewada. First time voters across the state participated in the most celebrated festival of democracy with enthusiasm and vigour. Despite disappointing voter turnout, election authorities in the state have a silver line as they have written to the Gunnies Book of word records about the successful polling held in Nizamabad by using 12 ballot units at each polling station.
