Parliament is temple of democracy, says Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has said that Parliament is the temple of democracy and agreements and disagreements are part of the functioning of a vibrant Parliament. He was speaking at the Goa Assembly Complex at Porvorim near Panaji on the Role of Parliament in the doctrine of separation of powers, enhancing transparency and accountability today. Current and former Goa MLAs attended the programme. Mr Birla said that such discussions with diverse opinions are the identity of a democracy.

The Lok Sabha Speaker said that legislators should spend more time on deliberating on topics affecting the common man and win the trust of voters. He congratulated Goa for adopting new techniques in the administration of the house, especially efforts aimed at going paperless. Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant also spoke on the occasion. Assembly Speaker Rajesh Patnekar welcomed the gathering.
