PM Modi says Centre's decision to give ownership rights in unauthorized colonies in Delhi gives chance to residents to live without fear

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said Centre will complete the work to give ownership rights to 40 lakh people living in unauthorized colonies in the national capital with utmost responsibility. Interacting with the members of the Residents Welfare Associations of unauthorized colonies in New Delhi today, Mr. Modi said, his government under the PM Unauthorized Colonies in Delhi Aawas Adhikar Yojana, PM-UDAY has granted ownership to the people living in unauthorized colonies. He said the scheme was launched after thorough consultations with people from all walks of life including the local MPs, MLAs and other residents of the colonies. Prime Minister said the decision was above politics and is meant for every individual irrespective of their religion or political affiliations.

Mr Modi said the decision has brought an end to the decades of uncertainty and gives the residents a chance to pursue the dreams of their lives in peace, without any threat of eviction or displacement. He promised that very soon a law in this regard will be passed in the Parliament and registration process will start. The Prime Minister said, the decision would change the fortune of entire Delhi.

Describing the decades-old decadence in the country, Mr. Modi said, post-independence the country developed a culture of abstaining from decisions or stalling decisions and diverting from the issues which led to instability in the lives of people. He also mentioned about the recent decision to revive the stalled housing projects for the middle-class citizens. Mr Modi said, the decision would help over 4.5 Lakh home buyers in the country and help them restart their lives in a peaceful manner.

The Prime Minister reiterated his government’s resolve to provide a house for all by 2022.

He further said, the government has taken several path-breaking steps to remove the uncertainties related to the unauthorized colonies, Article 370 and Triple Talaq. Mr Modi said, the decisions were taken keeping in mind the motto, Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas and Sabka Vishwaas.

The Union Cabinet last month approved a proposal to grant ownership rights to people living in 1,797 unauthorized colonies in Delhi, a move that is estimated to benefit 40 lakh people in the city.
