Mumbai Police make elaborate security arrangements for new year celebrations

Mumbai Police has made elaborate security arrangements to protect women from any possible harassments during new year celebrations.

Special anti-eve teasing squads will be deployed at crowded places across the Mumbai city today. Mumbai police spokesperson, DCP Pranay Ashok informed that 93 police stations across the city have been instructed to form special anti-eve teasing squads in their respective jurisdictions and press them on duty from this evening. He said that the squad will be a combination of plain-cloth officers as well as uniformed policemen and women.

While the plain-cloth sleuths will mingle in the crowd to look out for possible troublemakers, revelers can approach the uniformed personnel for help. Ashok also said that over 40,000 policemen including all high ranking officials will be pressed on duty across the city. He added that the deployment will include, apart from the local police stations, armed personnel from the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), Riot Control Police (RCP), Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs), Special Branch (SB), Crime Branch (CB), Home Guard and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squards (BDDS). He also informed that places like the Gateway of India, Girgaum Chowpatty, Dadar Chowpatty, Mahim Chowpatty, Juhu Chowpatty, Versova Chowpatty, Madh Chowpatty, Gorai Chowpatty, precincts of the Powai lake which are going to witness large footfall during the reveleries would be monitored live from the police Control Room through a network of CCTV cameras.

Similarly, important religious places and busts/statues of important personalities, shopping malls and theaters would be kept under 24x7 surveillance. He further added that special patrolling by plain-cloth policemen would be made at these places. The police have also released two helplines--7738133133/7738144144-- where citizens can inform and seek help by sending text messages (SMS), apart from calling up on the emergency 100 number.
