Massive crackdown launched against bootlegging in UP

Uttar Pradesh police and excise officials launched a massive crackdown against bootlegging across the state on Sunday following the recent hooch tragedy in Saharanpur and Kushinagar districts. 

More than 3,000 people have been arrested in the operations which were launched late Friday night on the orders of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. 

Over 2,800 cases have been registered and police have recovered more than one lakh thirty thousand litres of illicit liquor till now.

In Kushinagar, Deputy SP of Tankuhi Raj area has been removed and 47 police personnel were sent to police lines.

A joint operation against illicit liquor is also on in Uttarakhand. Two people have, so far, been arrested.

The death toll in both the states due to the tragedy has risen to 76. In UP, forty-five people have lost their lives, while 31 have died in Uttarakhand.
