Maharashtra reports 20,228 COVID-19 cases with 1,165 new patients

Maharashtra has reported 1165 new coronavirus patients, taking the total number of COVID-19 cases to 20228. A health department official said the state has reported death of 48 patients yesterday, taking the toll to 779. A 51-year-old police constable who had tested positive for coronavirus died in Nashik district yesterday.

Earlier, three policemen in Mumbai and one each in Pune and Solapur had died due to the virus infection taking the total tally of policemen succumbing to it to six so far. As many as 714 personnel, including 81 officers, of Maharashtra police contracted COVID-19, and of these 61 had recovered from the infection. The number of COVID-19 fatalities in Maharashtra's Amravati district rose to twelve yesterday with the death of a 53-year-old man at the COVID facility in the district.
