Recently, the Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu approved a programme for hundred percent Macadamisation of all roads in Jammu and Kashmir including 11,000 Kms of fair-weather roads.

In this regard,  a committee has been constituted to prepare a roadmap wherein the developmental works are completed in a time bound manner. The LG also announced the release of the first tranche of 200 crores to the Public Works Department.

In the meantime, the central government has also left no stone unturned to reach-out to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Under the instructions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, 36 Central Ministers visited various parts in Jammu and Kashmir to oversee for themselves the developmental initiatives needed by the people of the Union Territory.

In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, a massive Confidence-Building- Exercise was undertaken by the central government this year whereby as many as 36 Central Ministers visited various places in Jammu and Kashmir as a part of Public Outreach Programme to get the first hand information of the problems and issues faced by the people especially in rural and remote areas of the Union Territory. They visited 12 districts in Jammu and Kashmir and covered about sixty areas by attending more than hundred Public gatherings apart from organizing two hundred public welfare programmes.

The visit was aimed to give a boost to developmental works and to ensure the timely implementation and execution of various centrally sponsored schemes in the region.

The Central Ministers also assessed the developmental initiatives undertaken by the Union Territory administration, on ground. They also interacted with the local population to get first-hand information on developmental front like Roads, Healthcare facilities, Electricity and functioning of Academic Institutions in the Union Territory.

More specifically,  the Public Outreach Programme was intended to tell the people of Jammu and Kashmir that the Centre and the Union Territory administration was quite serious about  accelerating the developmental works in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Central Ministers also laid foundation stones of various projects so that the benefits of various centrally sponsored schemes percolate across the Union Territory at the grass-root levels.
