India is important partner of UN in countering terrorism & preventing violent extremism: UN Secretary General

UN
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has said, India is an important partner of the UN in countering terrorism and preventing violent extremism.

Mr Guterres, who will begin a three-day visit to India tomorrow, told this to news agency PTI in an email interview. He said, there are plans to step up co-operation between UN and India on strengthening capacity in combating terror financing.

The UN Chief said, the planning and implementation of acts of terrorism transcend borders and it is the responsibility of all States to take action to address the conditions conducive to the spread of terrorism.

He said, India's recent contribution to the UN Trust Fund for Counter-Terrorism will support the execution of capacity-building projects by the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism.
