HC directs WB govt to suspend CAA related media campaigns

@MamataOfficial
The Calcutta High Court directed the West Bengal government today to suspend all media campaigns related to the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

A Division Bench of the court directed the State government to suspend the campaigns on CAA till the court gives its final order.

In print and audio-visual advertisements, the Mamata government said that NRC and CAA will not be implemented in the State.

The matter will be taken up for the next hearing on January 9, 2020.

Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress Supremo Mamata Banerjee has appealed to the all non-BJP political parties to chalk out a concerted plan to protest for, what she called,  saving democracy of the country.

In a letter written to all opposition political parties today, Ms. Banerjee requested them to stand up in a united manner against the alleged unholy efforts by the Centre and save the country’s democratic soul.

Ms. Banerjee described the present situation as very tense and serious. She alleged that every section of society is in the grip of fear and panic due to the Citizenship Amendment Act and the proposed NRC.
