Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that Government is continuously working and taking progressive measures to double the farmers' income by 2022. Addressing 3rd Global Potato Conclave at Gandhinagar, Gujarat today through video conferencing, Mr Modi said, the combination of efforts of farmers and government's policy has resulted in bringing India among the top three countries in the world in the production of many cereals and other food items. He said, the Centre has also taken several steps to promote the food processing sector. They include opening of the processing sector to 100 per cent Foreign Direct Investment and helping in developing value addition and value chain through Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana.
Mr Modi said, at the beginning of this month, a new record was created by transferring twelve thousand crore rupees to the bank accounts of six crore farmers simultaneously. He said, government is promoting traditional agriculture as the priority is to reduce layers and yield wastage between farmers and consumers. The Prime Minister said, government is laying emphasis on promotion of agro-technology based start-ups so that farmers' database and agri-stock can be used for smart and precision agriculture. He said, India was lagging in production of pulses at one point, but the farmers took the initiative and solved the issue. Mr Modi said, government has targeted to create a modern and comprehensive network from farm to food-processing. He said, it is also focusing on micro-irrigation with the Mantra of per drop, more crop.
The Prime Minister said the suggestions of farmers are important on utilization of new technologies like modern biotechnology, Artificial Intelligence, Block chain, Drone Technology in the agriculture sector.
