Govt rejects congress charges on the transfer of Delhi High Court Judge

Government today rejected Congress charges over the  transfer of Delhi High Court Judge S Muralidhar, who heard the petitions on Delhi violence yesterday.

It has termed the transfer as routine exercise. In a series of tweets, Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said,  the transfer of Justice Muralidhar was done in pursuant to the recommendation of the Supreme Court collegium headed by Chief Justice of India. He said, the consent of the judge was taken while transferring him and the well settled process have been followed.

Mr. Prasad alleged that by politicising a routine transfer, Congress has yet again displayed its scant regard for the judiciary. He added that people of India have rejected Congress and hence it is hell bent on destroying the very institutions, India cherishes.

Earlier, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala alleged that Justice Muralidhar was transferred by the government to save BJP leaders in Delhi violence case. He also alleged that it seems those doing justice in country will now not be spared.

Referring to former Congress President Rahul Gandhi's tweet on death of Judge BH Loya,  the Law Minister said the Loya judgement has been well settled by the Supreme Court.

He added that those raising questions  on it do not respect the judgment of the Apex Court pronounced after elaborate arguments.

Mr. Prasad asserted that the government  respects independence of judiciary. He alleged that the record of Congress in compromising independence of judiciary, superseding judges even of Supreme Court during emergency is well known.
