Former Senior Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia today joined BJP. BJP President J P Nadda inducted him in New Delhi. Speaking to media later, Mr Scindia hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his leadership, saying the country's future is secure in his hands. Mr Scindia thanked Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Mr Nadda, and said they have given him the platform to serve the people.

Mr Scindia said he is pained and distressed for not able to serve the people in his previous organisation. He said, the Congress is living in denial and it is not the same party what it used to be. Talking about Madhya Pradesh, the erstwhile Congress leader said, the dream which he saw with his former colleagues for the state has been shattered in the last 18 months.

Welcoming him into the BJP, Mr Nadda recalled the party's founder and Jyotiraditya's grandmother Vijaya Raje Scindia and said, he is joining his family. He said, Mr Scindia will work as a mainstream leader in the party.

Yesterday, Mr Scindia tendered his resignation to Congress President Sonia Gandhi saying it was time for him to move on.

The Congress today termed the recent developments in Madhya Pradesh an insult to democracy. Senior Congress spokesperson Anand Sharma said in New Delhi that BJP is attempting to destabilise non-BJP governments in states. Mr Sharma questioned why the BJP was intolerant towards non-BJP governments in the states which have come to power with public mandate.
