Fit India call given by PM Modi should become national movement: Vice President

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu has said that the Fit India call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi should become a national movement. He said, it is apt, timely and most needed call.

Speaking to media after Badminton Star P V Sindhu called on him in Hyderabad on Saturday, he said, India has a great demographic dividend with 65 per cent of its population below 35 years of age.

He observed that it is necessary to have a healthy, active and productive young force to take the country to greater heights.

Mr Naidu said, efforts such as Fit India are extremely relevant at a time when non-communicable diseases were on the rise due to changes in modern lifestyles and dietary habits.

He pointed out that fitness of the body and mind would not only keep individuals and smart but also gives them strength to achieve their goals and become socially useful.

He stressed that a healthy nation is a necessary precondition to becoming a wealthy nation.

The Vice President said P V Sindhu is the pride of the nation and sportspersons like her are role models for the youth.

It may be recalled Sindhu won the BWF World Champion recently and became the first Indian to win the gold.

He appreciated her hard work, dedication and commitment and said Sindhu has been a great inspiration to all the countrymen.

He complimented Sindhu for following strict diet, rigorous and disciplined practice to achieve her goals.
