Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari has asked the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) to indicate its willingness and ability to form a new government in the state. The NCP has been given time till 8:30 tonight in this regard.

Meanwhile, a team of senior Congress leaders, Mallikarjun Kharge, Ahmed Patel and KC Venugopal, will hold a meeting with NCP chief Sharad Pawar in Mumbai.

Earlier Tuesday morning, Congress President Sonia Gandhi spoke to Mr. Pawar over the political situation in the state. Yesterday, Congress had said it will hold further discussion with NCP leaders on supporting Shiv Sena to form government in the state.

Earlier, the Governor made similar offers to the BJP and Shiv Sena. While the BJP declined the offer, Shiv Sena failed to produce letters of support to form a government.
NCP with 54 MLAs has emerged as the third-largest party in the 288-member Assembly. BJP bagged 105 seats, Shiv Sena 56 while Congress bagged 44.
