Bangladesh disallows mass gathering before and after prayers in places of worship

AIR
The Religious affairs ministry of Bangladesh issued a circular on Wednesday disallowing all kinds of mass gathering before and after prayers in mosques or any other places of worship. The decision has been taken in view of the continuing rise in COVID-19 cases in the country at an alarming rate.

Earlier, the Ministry had issued another circular directing that no Iftar or Sehri will be allowed to be held in the mosques during the month of Ramzan. Several other health directives were also issued for people coming to the mosques to offer prayers in order to limit the spread of Coronavirus.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh recorded the highest level of single day infection on Wednesday continuing the trend of over 7000 infections seen over the last 3 days. According to the Directorate General of Health Services, Bangladesh recorded 7626 fresh coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours on Wednesday. 63 deaths were also reported. The death toll in the country has gone up to 9447.

On the third day of the countrywide lockdown, buses started operating  inside the cities after the government partially rolled back the suspension of public transport on Tuesday. Some parts of the capital city also witnessed protests by shopkeepers and two-wheeler ridesharing drivers demanding an end to closure of shops and ban on ridesharing respectively.
