Asian markets end higher as coronavirus cases dip

AIR
Asian markets ended higher, today, after officials reported the lowest daily increase in coronavirus infection cases in nearly two weeks, calming investor nerves over the epidemic’s economic impact.

The reports lent credence to a prediction from the country’s senior medical adviser that the outbreak could be over by April. Japan's Nikkei-225 index and South Korea's Kospi index rose 0.7 percent, each.

China's Shanghai Composite index and Hong Kong's Hang Seng index climbed 0.9 percent, each; and  Singapore's Straits Times index advanced 1.4 percent.

In Europe, key indices, London's FTSE-100 and France's CAC-40 had gained 0.3 percent, each and Germany's DAX had added 0.6 percent, in intra-day trade.
