7 more COVID-19 positive cases reported in Jammu and Kashmir

In Jammu and Kashmir, 7 more COVID-19 positive cases have been reported today. All cases are from the Kashmir valley, taking the total number of cases in Kashmir to 21 and in the entire union territory to 27. These new cases include a 56-year old man with a travel history to Indonesia, and 4 persons, aged between 28 to 35 years, from Hajin area of Bandipora district who had come in contact with a patient who died of the virus in Srinagar on Thursday. The other is a couple, from Srinagar who had returned from Mumbai. All of them have been admitted to Chest Disease Hospital in Srinagar. In Rajouri, over 50 people have been identified and put under surveillance. Around 6000 people have been put under surveillance.

The Government has dedicated 8 hospitals in Kashmir and 3 in Jammu as exclusive Covid hospitals. In addition, 2400 treatment beds and 1000 additional quarantine beds have also been earmarked. To facilitate people, the Electricity and Water Departments have asked people to pay their bills online with an aim to break the chain.

The Government has started distribution of two moths advance ration and free ration under PM Garib Kalyan Yojna. Meanwhile, the Jammu Municipal Corporation has banned all types of constructions within its jurisdiction till further orders. Government has appealed people not to panic, saying availability and continuous replenishment of all essential commodities is the priority of the government.

To facilitate people, No’s: 0191-2549676 (UT level cell for JK), 0191-2520982 (For Jammu Division), 0194-2440283 (For Kashmir Division) are functional. People have been asked not to pay heed to rumours and rely on information released by the government.

Meanwhile, the District administration of Rajouri today issued an order to declare five villages in Manjakote Tehsil as red zones and their surrounding villages as buffer zones to prevent the spread of COVID - 19. The villages include Sarola, Dehridhara, Mangal Nar, Gambir Muglan and Kotli. Three persons hailing from Manjakote Tehsil of the district have tested positive for the virus since Thursday. District Magistrate, Rajouri Nazir Sheikh said the area has become more vulnerable as far as further transmission of the COVID-19 virus is concerned.  He said it is necessary to break further transmission of the disease in the area and it becomes imperative to take stringent precautionary measures. Invoking prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC, the National Disaster Management Act and Epidemic Disease Act, he said there would be no inward and outward movement of any person from these villages.

Residents would stay at their homes to ensure complete lockdown. He further said there would be no vehicular movement on the Rajouri-Bhimber Gali road. He directed the officials concerned to ensure supply of essential commodities as per laid down protocols in the villages covering both local residents and outside labourers, and warned of stern action against anyone who try to violate the orders.
