'Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav' to be organised in historically significant Viduraswatha, Kittur and Shivapura in Karnataka

In the countdown to the 75th anniversary of India’s freedom, Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav is organised in the historically significant Viduraswatha, Kittur and Shivapura in Karnataka. Viduraswatha is known as Jalianwala bagh of Karnataka where in 1938 police opened fire on the unsuspecting crowd that had gathered in an open ground near the Ashwatha tree thereby killing 32 persons and injuring many.

Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa and cabinet ministers will participate in the Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav being organised in Vidursawatha in Chikkaballapur district. The Assistant Commissioner in Chikkaballapur district A N Raghunandan gave details of the event to be held tomorrow.

The event is also held in Kittur in Belagavi district which was a princely state where Kittur Rani Chennamma led an armed rebellion against the British in 1824. Shivapura village in Mandya district came into limelight during the freedom struggle in 1938 when the villagers hoisted the flag in protest against the British rule.
