Third phase of Vande Bharat Mission progressing smoothly

The third phase of Vande Bharat Mission is progressing smoothly. Briefing media in a virtual press conference, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said that in the first three phases of the Vande Bharat Mission, around 875 international flights were scheduled for operation from over 50 countries across 5 continents. So far, more than 700 of these flights have reached India, repatriating around 1 lakh 50 thousand Indians. He said the remaining 175 flights under Phase 3 are expected to reach in the coming days.

Of a total number of 5 lakh 13 thousand 47 Indians who have registered their request with Indian Missions abroad for repatriation to India, 3 lakh 64 thousand 209 people have returned under this Mission as of today. These Vande Bharat Mission flights have been instrumental in addressing the immediate requirements of stranded Indians from many parts of the world. Mr Srivastava said, Ministry is committed to bringing back remaining compatriots particularly in the GCC countries, Malaysia, and Singapore among other places. He informed that Phase Four of the Mission is being firmed up with effect from 3rd July in order to continue these efforts. He said that Phase Four will particularly focus on countries where there still are a large number of Indians who have registered to return. Chartered flight operations which commenced on 26th May have steadily increased over the past weeks.

These flights have also brought back seafarers and crews of shipping companies stranded in various places. Till date, over 13 lakh people have returned on these flights. Repatriations from neighbouring countries have also been happening through land borders. More than 84 thousand Indians have returned through land border immigration checkpoints from Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh.
