Perform, reform and transform are three pillars of New India: Javadekar

Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar today said that perform, reform and transform are the three pillars on which New India's vision has been built upon.

He said that the New India envisioned by the government will be free from corruption,    terror, casteism, communalism and poverty.

He was delivering the keynote address on the topic New India: Government and Media at a conclave organized by Malayala Manorama in Kochi.
The Minister reaffirmed the government's ever-continuing commitment towards media freedom and said freedom of media is the essence of democracy. He said, however, in a democratic civil society, freedom has to be responsible. He also said that incidents of mob lynching are happening in the country due to the spreading of rumours in social media.

He added that this happens due to the absence of authority or self-regulatory mechanism in social media.

Replying to questions, the Minister said that the government welcomes all kinds of criticism as they give insights into governance. He said the NDA government believes in free institutions because they are the strength of democracy.

On media freedom in Kashmir, Mr. Javadekar said that though there was a phase of reasonable restrictions, most of them are progressively being removed every day and there will be a completely normal, new Kashmir and new India.
