Campaigning ends for single phase Assembly polls in TN, Kerala, Puducherry and for 3rd phase polling in WB, Assam

Campaigning came to close this evening for assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry and for the third phase of polling in West Bengal and Assam. Senior leaders and star campaigners of various parties made last ditch efforts to woo the voters in the four poll-bound States and one Union Territory.

140 Assembly Constituencies of Kerala, 234 Constituencies in Tamil Nadu and 30 Assembly seats of Puducherry will go to polls on Tuesday. While Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry will see a single phase polling, third phase polling will take place for 31 seats in West Bengal and final phase of polling will be held in Assam for 40 seats. By-polls to Kanniyakumari Lok Sabha seat in Tamil Nadu and Malappuram Parliamentary seat in Kerala will also be conducted simultaneously.

West Bengal is witnessing Eight phase polling this time while Assam has three-phase Assembly elections. In West Bengal, most of the leaders focused on public meetings and mass contact programmes in order to make the final appeal to voters criss-crossing the constituencies on the last day. Polling will be held on 6th of this month in 31 constituencies spread across 3 districts, Hooghly, Howrah and South 24 Parganas. In this phase, 205 candidates including 13 women are in the fray.

In Assam, a total of 337 candidates including 25 women are in the fray in the third and final phase of assembly polls. Several ministers of BJP, Asom Gana Parishad and BPF along with state BJP President are in the fray in this phase. Union Home minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal , NEDA Convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma, AIUDF President Badruddin Ajmal, Assam Jatiya Parishad President Lurinjyoti Gogoi, State Congress President Ripun Bora addressed rallies to woo the voters. Meanwhile, all preparations are being made to conduct free, fair and safe polls on Tuesday.

In Tamil Nadu, a total of 3,998 candidates are contesting the election this time.

In Kerala, the last phase of election campaigning witnessed active participation of national leaders and star campaigners of all the three major fronts.
