Delhi police says, situation under control in north-east Delhi; forms two SITs to investigate violence

Delhi Police has said that the situation in the violence hit North-Eastern part of the city is under control. The death toll in the violence has gone up to 28. More than 100 People have been arrested in connection with violence and sufficient forces have been deployed in the affected areas.

Delhi Police has issued two helpline numbers 22829334 and 22829335 wherein people can contact for any assistance or can share any information with the police. Ministry of Home Affairs in an advisory has said that 'Mob violence and lynching is a heinous crime and serious criminal offence. It invites serious consequences and stringent punishment under the law.

Delhi Police has transfered the North-East Delhi violence probe to the Crime Branch and formed two Special Investigation Teams, SITs for comprehensive and effective investigation. The first of these SITs will be headed by Deputy Commissioner of Police Joy Tirkey and the other one by DCP Rajesh Deo. Every SIT will have four Assistant Commissioners of Police. Every team under the ACP will consist of three inspectors, four sub-inspectors and three Head Constables and Constables. Additional Commissioner of Police B K Singh will supervise the work of both the SITs.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday reviewed situation in violence hit North East Delhi. In a series of tweets, Mr Modi said, police and other agencies are working on the ground to ensure peace and normalcy.

He said, peace and harmony are central to country's ethos and appealed to everyone to maintain peace and brotherhood at all times. National Security Adviser Ajit Doval visited the affected areas yesterday and took stock of the situation.
