Indian-Americans in Houston excited ahead of PM Modi’s visit

@PMOIndia
The Indian American community in Houston is agog with excitement ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the city.

Organizers of Howdy Modi event- Texas India Forum are leaving no stone unturned with more than 50,000 people already registering for the mega diaspora show at the sprawling NRG stadium.

Our correspondent takes a look at how Houston emerged as the city chosen for the event.

Houston is the most populous city of Texas and has the distinction to be the energy capital of the world. Apart from addressing the Indian community,

PM will be interacting with the captains of industry in the energy sector from the US. This is significant in terms of India’s move to diversify its energy mix. India is the fourth largest trading partner of Houston after Brazil, China and Mexico.

Not to forget, Houston city is home to one and a half lakh Indian origin people- one of the most politically and culturally active Indian diaspora. No wonder, many call Houston the ‘Nagpur of America’.

A sizeable, successful Indian diaspora in Houston plus the trade & energy linkages made it an obvious choice to host the mega diaspora event.
