MP celebrates Major Dhyanchand’s birthday as Sports Day

In Madhya Pradesh, all-time greatest player of Hockey ‘The Wizard’ Major Dhyanchand’s birthday was celebrated today in the whole state as Sports Day.

On this occasion, various sports activities were organized at the district and development block levels. The winners and runner-ups were awarded after the events.

The birthday of the legend was celebrated joyfully at the TT Nagar Stadium Complex at capital city Bhopal. The officials, coaches and a number of players present there revered Mr. Dhyanchand with garlands and talked about his remarkable personality and feats.

To mark this day, a friendly match was played between SAI Bhopal and Hockey Academy teams this morning, in which SAI Bhopal won with the final score of 5-3. 

Chief Minister Kamal Nath has extended best wishes to all the players and sports fans on the occasion of Rashtriya Khel Diwas. Paying obeisance to the great Hockey Player Major Dhyanchand, Shri Nath said that sports develop a culture that connects the world.

Beyond victory and defeat, the culture of sports eradicates discrimination. He said that our players not only win medals with their talent but also win hearts.

Shri Nath said that the Madhya Pradesh government is committed to enhance the necessary infrastructural facilities for sports. Along with this, more attention is being paid to prepare players for international competitions by providing healthy environment and qualitative training. The search for new sports talent will continue in the state.
