The Election Commission has taken action against three persons including two poll officials over the display of photograph of a 2012 Delhi gang-rape convict on official hoardings of Punjab State Election Commission.

The Commission said in a statement that Election Tehsildar Karnail Singh in the office of District Election Office in Hoshiarpur has been suspended. Departmental action has been initiated against Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) in-charge Rajan Monga while FIR has been lodged against accused Tajinder Singh who is Printing press owner in Hoshiarpur.

The hoardings were put in the run-up to the National Voter Day celebration in January this year as part of the SVEEP campaign that sought to encourage people to vote.
