Odisha: 42% polling recorded till 1.00 p.m for bye-election to Patakura assembly seat

The voting for Patkura Assembly constituency began at 7 a.m. amidst tight security arrangement today in Odisha. Forty two per cent polling was recorded by 1 p.m. In all,10 candidates including one woman are in the fray.

Four companies of paramilitary forces along with the Odisha Police have been deployed to ensure free and fair polling. The seat fell vacant following the death of BJD candidate Bed Prakash Agarwala. AIR correspondent reports that the polling is continuing peacefully in all 309 polling centre. 

Over 2 lakh 44 thousand 747 voters are expecting to exercise their votes. The pace of the voter turnout during the initial hours was low due to rain. Now, the voters are seen standing in queues to cast their vote. There is a big contest between BJP and BJD candidates.

The videography of the polling is also being done. Mechanical defects found in booth number 278, have been corrected. The polling will continue till 6 pm and the counting will take place on 24th of this month.
