Assam govt intensifies relief & rescue measures in flood hit areas

The Assam government has intensified relief and rescue measures in flood hit areas. 57 lakh people in 29 districts are reeling under the fury of flood though most of the rivers are receding. 10 persons lost their lives due to flood in last 24 hours.

The army, NDRF, SDRF and civil administrations have evacuated over 14 thousand people today. 1.5 lakh people are still taking shelter at relief camps and essential food items are being distributed.

Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal has visited Barak valley today and reviewed the flood situations. State Finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma held a meeting with senior officials in Guwahati.

Mr. Sarma said that 95 thousand rupees will be given to those whose houses are damaged due to flood. He said that flood water also damaged 300 schools in the state. Mr. Sarma said that there is no dearth of fund to help affected people.
