Congress today demanded an apology from the Prime Minister and senior BJP leader Narendra Modi and punitive action against BJP candidate from Bhopal Pragya Thakur for calling Nathu Ram Godse a true patriot.

Talking to media in New Delhi, party spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said this is an insult to the Gandhian way of life that lives in the soul of the country. He said Pragya Thakur's statement is also an attack on Gandhian ideology.

Mr Surjewala said, Godse's mindset was against those who had participated in the freedom movement and it is unfortunate that BJP is eulogising him.
