Mumbai FOB collapse: Bail plea of auditor, engineers rejected

File pic: DD News
A Mumbai sessions court has rejected the bail plea of a structural auditor and two civic corporation engineers arrested in connection with the recent collapse of a foot-over bridge near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. Seven people were killed in last month's incident.

Neeraj Kumar Desai is the structural engineer whose firm had carried out the audit of the bridge and declared it safe despite finding some corrosion.

He was arrested on the charges of negligence along with two Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation engineers.

During the court hearing yesterday, public prosecutor Mangesh Arote submitted that prima facie a case is made out against the accused.

The prosecutor said, if released on bail, the accused might tamper with evidence because they have relations with BMC officials and the investigation into the matter was still underway.
